Something is sure to be announced soon. A330's are going to be too big a wait, bring on the 787's....:D

Thanks for the link Decker...:)

Whilst it wouldn't be impossible for VS to place an order with Boeing, I've got to say that that ATW story is little better than an a.net rumour.

Two analysts in London told ATWOnline said they would be surprised if the airline took either deferred commitment. "Branson's going all green and for twin engines," one claimed.

Barely grammatically correct, let alone quoting a credible source. At best it's speculation.

Agree with the speculation ... and would be surprised if Airbus let Virgin go. However, please no more stories about A330s, I really dislike that plan inside.

Scott Carson from Boeing is making a quarterly update about the 787's progress at 10.00 ET.

This coincides with the arrival of the A380 I believe at either JFK or LAX this morning, well scheduled announcement from Boeing yet again...;)

Hopefully he will announce the owner of the 787 order placed last week..:D

Unless Boeing is opening up a second line isn't the wait time longer for the 787 than the 330 ? Though it would look great in VS colours [y]

Edit:

Ok just going through the Boeing press release for today, they say they are going to double the fleet size of their LCF's, now to me that means they are ramping up production, so ok maybe a slot will open up quicker for the 787 over the 330.

Just to stir the pop a little.

Boeing said way back that they wouldn't open up a second line till they had a 5 year back log, now me thinks that with the 787 production going pretty smoothly (Boeing has already said they can make a couple of extra planes a month) is a major order due ? BA or AA looking at fleet replacements ???

EDIT again: Lifted under fair us

But Bair said that Boeing won't add to the 112 aircraft it plans to make in 2008 and 2009. Any additional production will be based on how strong the order book is after the first two years of deliveries, since it would require additional investment in manufacturing plants.

VS had production positions for A330's & would be very sensible to secure the same for the B787.

Will believe any new order when I see the press release from VS.

Denzil- just a quick q- these 330 production slots you talk about- are you refereing to 346 production slots that could be converted to 330 slots if need be?

Most airlines will approach the aircraft makers with their wants/not wants & could reserve delivery slots, i believe this was the case last year with VS for the A330. It's not even as clear cut as that, VS don't really own many of their aircraft. The leasing company will make provisional orders for aircraft they think they can lease out or that an airlines approaches them to lease. Use EK as an example, their B777-300ER's are from 3 differents sources (direct purchase, ILFC & GECAS). If you want some new equipment QUICK, a large leasing company like GECAS would probably have more push to get you an early delivery slot.

Getting back to the original question, i think they had seperate delivery slot options for A330's

No exact date on first delivery but will be next year, probably late next year but first flight has been mooted to be around August of this year I believe. Although if its anything like the 380 the best bet would be middle of the next decade! ;)
