Thanks[y]

I guess you chose the later flight in order to spend as long as possible at home, but I can't stand it; I tend to feel very groggy afterwards with having to wake up after only an hour or two of sleep at the most and then only checking in at the hotel 7am UK time.
I don't mind not sleeping so much; it's more the waking up that's the problem[ii]

Would be interseting to know at what time people prefer to travel over the Atlantic- personally I like to get off in the morning so that I arrive as early as possible in the day. I agree with VS that leaving that late puts you stateside feeling very weary!! [|)]

I like to leave the UK as early as possible, gives me time to settle into my new surroundings and still enjoy my first night. PLus I hate hanging around knowing I have a flight later in the day.

Got to agree with both these points. As long as I restrict my in-flight alchohol intake I can manage an extended first "day" quite happily. I too hate the hanging about both at home and at the airport (though that viewpoint may change if I ever achieve the dizzy heights of CH access..)

I'm also one for a late afternoon/evening arrival. You can go to the hotel, relax and get a proper sleep before the next day's business (or pleasure). That's why the VS001 works so well for me, as my business is usually in NJ rather than NYC, so Newark is the better destination.

It depends what I am doing.

If I'm arriving and just going to lounge about in an airport hotel I prefer to arrive later but if off in a car, an early arrival is better. Just means no little drinkies at the bar in flight. [:(]

On the homeward flight, a later departure is usually the only choice I have but at least I get to lie by the pool a bit longer. I just hate arriving at LHR late in the day as the world just seems to stop dead. Early landing are brilliant as the roads a nice and quiet.

Early evening departure out, for return I aim for an early morning return if possible. The reason for this is that I maximise my work and holiday time (I get paid by the day with my butt on a seat).

This works well in particular for New York but not at all well for the West Coast.

Out as early as possible, the 03 gets in to a usually very quiet lunchtime JFK, and tend to come back at weekends so prefer again to leave early to get home in time the same day to kiss the little darlings goodnight...:)

As early as possible, but it's always dictated by flight times, of course. I never sleep well the night before a holiday (excitement???) so am always up way too early. Seems a waste to be pacing the floor at home...

We have only ever flown to MCO but quite like being on International Drive for around 4.30pm.

However I am very worried about our LA flight (we arrive at 7pm ish LA time) as I tend to fall asleep the minute I start thinking about what time it is at home. I've tried pro plus, attempting to sleep on the plane, getting drunk, not sleeping the night before, going for a swim when I arrive, taking my watch off, my husband even lies to me when I ask him what time it is. I am going to try Melatonin and hope it works.

I tried melatonin on my last trip - after reading reports on it here - it didn't help me to stay awake on that first day, but what it did seem to do was allow both of us to wake up at a more normal time, rather than the around 4am.... it helped a lot.

Ok you guys have lost me.......honest [:w]

Anyways the earlier the flight gets into the west coast the better as far as I am concerned, heck the earlier it gets into the UK for that matter.

Ambien , a gift from the gods, unless you sleep through the IFBT.

I like the BA 278 out of LAX, gets into LHR at 9.45, means I have most of the day to get stuff done.

Going to the US I prefer to arrive as early as possible to maximise time spent there (and make the most of money paid for a hotel room that night).
Returning, I like an early departure from the west-coast as I'd rather have the day ahead of me upon return. Returning from the east-coast I have two preferences, either early-morning or early evening so that I either arrive home at a reasonable time in the evening or as early as possible in the morning to have the day ahead - a bit contradictory but there ya go;)

I like to arrive to the east coast late afternoon but for me to do so there is a consequence. If I want to go to JFK on VS45 (which was my flight of choice when it was VS3) I have to be up at 4:00am in order to leave home at 5:00am to catch EI710 to connect. As this gets into LHR at 9:00am it does leave a lot of Clubhouse time but I find that when we arrive in JFK I am exhausted. I much preferred VS1 as I could leave ORK later and arrive less exhausted. Of course since then the VS9 has been introduced to JFK but I have had no call to use it yet.

For MCO flights I have done what everyone else in the country who is not within spitting distance of LGW seems to do and that is to fly out the night before because there is no connecting flight in the early morning. I have found that as a result I am less tired when I aarive there as there is no rush in the morning and I am not stressed about connections. I have decided therefore that if I wish to take a VS flight out of LHR which leaves before midday I am going to do just that and I have already booked my EI flight for the night before my SFO one in July. With a two hour connecting time there is no margin of error, especially since bags are no longer interlined and with heightened security measures. Last week EI710 landed at 9:22. If I had been relying on it to connect to VS19 I would have missed my flight

Thankfully it only takes us about 1hr 15mins to get to LHR so we can be much more flexible.
On the subject of connections; we once missed our flight from Charlotte-NY (NJ to Nick;)) so had to go via Cleveland. Ended up missing our connection back to LHR from EWR so had to catch the next flight to LGW which was a bit of an inconvenience, but our fault I suppose[:#]

This year I'm on VS003 which should get me in to JFK at about lunchtime. Just as well as I've never been there before and will be driving straight out to the NY/PA border for my fisrt night. Not looking forward to the very early wake up though and paranoia will mean 3 different alarms being set.

Back on VS010 so hopefully all rested before the return drive.

All this without the benefit of a CH UCS or Revivals[n] Pray for me!!

It is you who are in the gutter, my pet. I was referring to departure preferences. Wave your finger in the mirror! [:X]
