Faced with the prospect of flying this Friday (13th) I was wondering whether anyone out there had any particular superstitions or rituals around flying. Is there anyone out there for whom this Friday would literally be a 'No-Fly' day.

I'm not particularly superstitious, although my father died on Friday 13th, and have flown on a F13 before but it always makes me a little more nervous [:(].

P.S. Do VS loads suffer on F13?

Wouldn't worry me, but then I was born on a Friday the 13th

I wouldn't have a problem flying on Friday 13th, but don't know if loads suffer or not.

I think Friday 13th being an unlucky day is a British superstition, at least it is according to this website, so maybe loads aren't affected too much.

That explains a lot [:0]

I have no issues with it, hell I will fly anytime, I flew on 9/11/02, though the flight was a little empty.

I would definitely fly on Friday 13th. Hopefully loads would be lighter, and more of the cheap fare buckets available! In other words, other people's loss due to superstition is my gain.

I'd be surprised if it was only a British superstition, bearing in mind the date's biblical connection.

I'm also in the camp of willing to fly on any day, don't have any hang up at all and have never been superstitious.

I also wonder about Friday the 13th being only a British Superstition, after all the American's made a massive film series out of it.

Which explains why many US hotels don't have a 13th floor [:p] - perhaps some places have adopted our superstition. Last week in New York I had a 14th floor room, no 13th of course but I know I'm really on 13, just not that dim!

I think even this website says that it "may be the most widespread superstition in the United States" - with as many as 8 percent affected.

Also, I only drink ginger ale when flying, and strangely it is the ONLY soft drink I drink whilst flying. Lastly, I ALWAYS tap on the outside of the plane by the door when boarding.

Haven't heard of either of those - why do you do them? And does anyone know if prices are factored in to be different for F13?

I worked the last Friday 13th. Was doing service when another crewmember mentioned it, a passengers face went white! Didn't realise people were so hung up on superstition; perhaps it does affect loads slightly?

I would never fly Friday the 13th, way too superstitious for that. Some of the things I do.

Never walk over 3 drains Avoid ladders Hate Friday 13th (broke my leg and shoulder twice all on separate F13 When racing, always got in the car from the left, even got out once and went round the other side Always wear black boxers (!) Have to say some things 3 times Pray before boarding/take off/landing

I could go on but I feel like a nutter now [:w]

We're flying back from NRT tomorrow and it hadn't even registered that it was F13. I'm more concerned that we'll have a good flight crew more than anything :)

Never realised there was no Row 13 in UC, interesting..

Never really been superstitous about F13 myself, although not sure if I would actually choose to fly. My mum lived at number 13 and was 13 on the 13th and nothing bad ever happened she always said it was a load of hocum. My friends are moving house tomorrow F13 and hopefully that will all go to plan although I was surprised that they would choose such a day;)

Well I've definitely changed my mind. My friend did indeed move house and his 91 year old father fell and my friend went racing off to help him and got pulled by the police for not having his seatbelt on WHAM £30 fine.[n]

Later on in the evening we all went out for a celebratory moving house drink and when my pal got back home he had been burgled and they had ransacked the house and taken just about everything[:(!]

Not a good day

EEK! So sorry to hear about the disasters. I hope that your friend's father is OK and that they can get their house back together soon.

Actually, a friend of mine had their new home broken into shortly after moving and they lost everything. They always blamed someone known to the removal company (not anything to do with the date!) but they never caught anyone.

Happy flying, whatever the date.

My flight passed off OK but getting to JFK caused problems as the E Subway line was virtually shut down due to signalling problems. I managed to reroute via the LIRR but some people where not as lucky and missed flights.
