In-seat power supply - widescreen laptops?

Do any of you VS frequent flyers out there have a new-ish widescreen laptop? If so, can you use it on the in-seat power supply on VS if you travel in UC or PE?

Only asking as I have a new-ish HP widescreen laptop, which takes a 90watt drain off the mains. The in-seat power supply on American Airlines cannot power this laptop, as their maximum current is 75 watts per seat. Is the VS in-seat power system capable of powering these newer laptops with a higher current drain?

I've no objection to buying the Kensington 120watt power adapter for the laptop, but would like to establish if it will / may work on VS first.

You need to set your Power options in Control Panel. I have a custom option called "In flight". Basically dimmer screen etc. Otherwise you pull too much and the seat power turns off.

That's the list for the supported laptops that they carry the power tips for onboard. There are other laptops that are not on that list that will work if you have the right power tip.

Correct - I have a Sony Vaio VGN-BX197XP which isn't on that list. If I plug it in using my own i-Go it fails to power. If I set the screen brightness lower it is fine.

Bazz cheers for the link, i have been trying to find out whether my laptop would work or not or a while.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L20 (the only model not on the list from what i can tell!) Does anybody know what "tip" i need to get and where from.

Chris try this link and follow the instructions. You should find what you need. You can also have a look at http://www.igo.com but they do not ship to the UK although they do have a UK affiliate.

I recently bought myself one of these (I paid less than half that price off eBay ~£40 [:w]). It worked onboard with my HP DV2130EA lap-top without any problems [y] It also means I dont need to take my HP power brick with me either as it also comes with a US/UK/European plug as well.

James if you do manage to get one you will need tip S1 which comes with that kit. Re eBay; I bought mine from this person (although they arn't currently selling the APM12EU which is the one you want. Mine was £39.99 including delivery [y]
