Washington & Aircraft Advice

Hi

I'm planning to travel to Washington on VS21 on September 2nd. The flight is listed as being operated by an 340-300? Have these been re-fitted since 2005, and more importantly have the new Premium Economy seats? I thought we had sold all these off to Virgin Nigeria?

Last time i used one from LA in 2005 it didn't even have the UC suite! [?]

All of the current fleet of 300s have the UCS, and according to the Chicago release all 300s will also have the new Premium seats by the end of June.

Do you think that they will be rolled out across the remaining 300's? How many have we got left?

I'd just assumed that being an LHR plane it would be re-fitted!

There's five 343's still in the fleet: AIR, ELD, SEA, FAR and HOL.

Even if they don't have the W "Superseat" yet, the existing W seats on these aircraft seem well designed and quite comfortable, in my experience, and laptop power is fitted on these aircraft.

There are 5 A343's currently in the fleet, all of which should be fitted with the new PE seats by the summer.

Back on VS28 from Orlando - just hope there's some upper deck PE left!

Washington for six days? That is too long. You will be bored silly. It is crap town.

I quite like Washington, although the last few times I've only been through there connecting to Denver, and they have used a 600 with the new seats. I'll be connecting there again on the 7th, so I'll post the TR shortly after.

Hi... Was in Washington in March to early April, and had a great time, lots to see and the people were very friendly and welcoming. If you're looking for things to do I would suggest you get "Frommers Washington DC 2007" full of interesting stuff.

Flying back over in August PE by VS. One real downside we had was no empower in PE on the flight, there simply was no hookup in the old seats, hopefully this will have changed by the time we go again in August with the seat upgrade.

btw everyone - Really good deal with miles plus money too on the flights. Saved over £350 each!!

As a matter of interest, are the front loos in UC on this a/c always at the right or does it vary?

I have not taken a VS 343 since they made them all suites, but due to fly one in a couple of weeks on the IAD route.

I don't particularly! Like JFK/EWR, you can get flights fairly late in the day, so I can get almost a full day's work done then roll up late afternoon for the flight. I stay overnight in an airport hotel at JFK/EWR/IAD then catch the first flight out the next morning to my final East Coast destination (eg, PIT, DAY) and a 9am start.

It's just my crazy way of maximising my income.

Where do you start...

You have Georgetown with its great side streets and history, and if you want shopping you have the Mall.

Rock Creek Park and across to Montrose and Dumbarton Parks are great if you're into jogging or walking, we stayed at the nearby Marriott when we were there, pricey but excellent.

National Zoological Park, Washington Monument, Lincoln Monument, Arlington... And theres just so many museums, and on the evenings you have your choice of clubs, restaurant's or theaters.

We drove a lot but used the rail system too when we needed to hop around the city and that worked out well.

Try and take in a night dinner cruise along the Potomac, you may need to book it before you go as places can get limited.

I'm going to sit down and do a travel report, when I have a free moment.. In the mean time I'm off to book those Washington tickets for august in PE.. Only the late afternoon is available in PE for miles, but from what happened with us in March I think thats a good thing.....

I flew to IAD on 28th April on VS 55 ( the 2nd daily flight)

It was scheduled to be a A340-300 but between the time of getting the boarding pass ( 1pm) and getting to the gate it was changed to an A340-600!![y] ( with vport)

Coming back last night on the VS 56 ( 2310 dep) it was the A340-300 but it was a case of getting to sleep as soon as possible.
