Hi all,

Quick question about the Silver companion account I can get as FC Gold. I'm going to sort this out for the wife's account, which currently holds about 20k miles. Now, the literature says that I can "tap" this store of miles for mileage redemptions on top of my own balance. So, here are my questions:

1. How is this different from before? I thought you could always tap into an account of someone else living at the same address?

2. If it *is* different, does this get around the "minimum" spend from a single account? For example, that 20k on its own is a one-way EC to PE upgrade but my understanding is that it cannot be used to part-contribute to a higher-mileage reward. (A 60k EC-->UC reward, for example, since even one way this account would require 30k)

However, as a companion account could I now take that 20k and pool it with my miles to obtain any reward redemption combination?

Cheers,

Darryl

2) The SSA (Supp. Silver Account) does avoid the split rule. So you spend 1,234 miles of a 10,000 mile award from the SSA account.

My husband has a SSA attached to my gold account. He usually has more miles than I do and I've been allowed access to his account to use a little or as many miles as I want.

Hi All

Everytime my wife takes a miles earning flight I call FC and transfer the miles into my gold account regardless of how many are there.

Ben, I was always told, and was under the impression, that you could only 'use' your SSA miles when you were redeeming for a flight, you cant get them added into your Au account as and when you like to top up your account. Its a miles repository for your use.

Mark - how have you had the miles transferred?

Thanks,
Sarah

So now I am planning my devilish idea.

I am also the account manager of my SSAs personal and work AmEx cards and have access to their MRs. SO if I transfered their MRs to 'their' SSA then transfered them to my FC I could be spend six weeks on Necker Island........

[:0] And return to permanent quarters better suited to the four-legged friend of the family, since I noted the singular 'I' not plural 'we' in that![}:)]

Well you'd struggle as the 'weeks' are only valid for Celebration weeks, and I beleive there are only 4 per year. SO you could stretch it over 1.5 years.

Oh, did the marketing piece not explain it was for Celebration weeks only? Damn them. No wonder only 2 people have ever redeemed for that reward. Whatever next, limiting the number of people that can redeem the 3m for the flight to space. Damn, that one has been thought of too. Not that it stops the marketing 'spin'.

Well thanks Richard. I will stick to award flights. Silly marketing people.
