Not sure if anyone else has noticed this but it looks like MRU will only earn 1 TP and 50% miles each way for the lowest economy N fare (the same as the US and Caribbean) [:#]

It's over 6000 miles each way so not sure why VS have decided on this.

From the VS web site:

In N class Nairobi, Mauritius and all US and Carribbean routes will earn 50% of base flown miles and 1 tier point per sector. All other routes will earn 100% of base flown miles and 2 tier points per sector.

VH seem to book most of their Economy passengers into N fare bucket where they can instead V, only a matter of time before this causes a few calls to customer services...[n]

I am sure the vast majority of VH customers would prefer to save the money and take the N class fare. Upgrading from N to a full miles earning class (X) can be quite expensive, as I have found to my cost several times in the past.

IIRC Virgin are one of the few airlines that give any miles / TPs for N class transatlantic fares. At least I have always understood BA and several others offer nothing - I stand to be corrected on this though.

I would just like to know on what basis VS set the N fare TP/miles earning levels on though. It doesn't look like is based on distance.

For example CPT is a slightly shorter flight (5994 miles each way) but your earn 2 TP's & 100% miles per leg on that flight for N's? I think DXB is one of VS's shortest flights but again you earn 2 TP's + 100% miles on that route.

MRU is ~6045 miles each way.

VH only charge one fare/price for Economy, the customer doesn't pay any difference dependent on what fare code VH use. If they book you into N, V or X you still pay the same advertised Economy fare from the brochure or website.

They look to use the lowest available fare themselves to maximize their profit from VS. If they can use N, they will and the customer suffers with the lower TP/Mileage earning rate...[V]

A number of times on booking Economy to the Carribean I've found "flight discounts" applied to the website price on my invoice. I presume these are related to the specific ticket class as when I've upgraded to PE, as Nick says, I've had to lose those discounts on top of the brochure upgrade price.
