I booked flights for both myself and my mom (in seperate reservations) with VS a couple nights ago. We have our confirmation e-mails and eticket e-mails and have spoken to VS over the phone to add a third party designator to the records, so everything appears to be just fine with our reservations.

However...

"Update Booking" says that it can't locate our reservations based on our FF numbers (for both my mom and myself). The ironic thing being that we used Milesplusmoney, so one would assume when you book the ticket using your miles it puts your FF number in the record--apparently not.

Also, I tried doing the API on the website and it won't work. I go through and tell it I'm a US citizen and that I live here, and it comes up and asks for my passport number and green card number. Then it tells me that the green card number is mandatory and I can't leave it blank, even though I've just told it that I don't have one.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Yup - every booking I've had for the past year does the same.

Well thats good to know (at least it's not just me). When I was on the phone with VS I told them about the problems with API, and asked if she wanted the info over the phone. She said it was up to us, but that we wouldn't be able to do online check-in without doing the API first.

As you used miles plus money, the system defaults to a 'dummy' FC number so you won't earn miles. you should find your bookings just fine if you use the reference and flight details.

As for API details, it is a known issue... for green card you should be able to ignore it as long as you have not added an expiry date for that too. otherwise, just use 0000000000000 as your number and expiry the same as your passport and you should be ok, and able to check in online.

Hope that helps.

To be fair though, Juliet - it's been a known issue for a long while. Surely, given the fact that VS have been pushing OLCI and API in the public arena, they'd have this as a priority to fix?

Sorry, but this has been going on for nearly a year (from memory), it's ridiculous.

I know its an ongoing issue, and has been going on a very long time, and they are still looking at website enhancements.

The issue is the core system pulls FC membership details from the allocation against the seat being travelled upon; ie: normal revenue seat with FC number against it. They are working on ensuring the FC number is in the same place on FULL rewards, as the system will not 'accidentally' grant miles or TP for a G, U or T class. The issue with MPM is that they should not earn, so they cannot read the number in the booking.

This is still being worked on, to ensure most effective resolution, but in the meantime, check using flight booking details on those you cannot find directly through your FC sign in.

If your reward seats do not show, a phone call should enable them to add the FC number in the relevant part of the bking, so you can bring this up from your account sign in.

Sorry about the frustration....

Ah, sorry - I was referencing the API/visa/green card/etc. issue as a more frustrating one. At least you can get around the FC number lookup by knowing your booking reference.

To the normal "man on the street" - how on earth are they supposed to know that VS want you to type a load of nonsense into one field to get their system working...?
