I recently travelled back from SYD. The first leg in PE was ok but I really didn't fancy the long night flight from HKG to LHR so as soon as I got to the gate at HKG I asked if there was any room in UC. The guy n the desk told me that there was only one unserviceable seat and to come back in ten minutes. Luck was on my side and there had been a no show. I was told it was 40K in miles to upgrade I argued that was for a return flight but this was only one way but the ground staff stuck to their guns and I agreed to the fee thinking I could always argue the toss with the Flying Club later. Anyway I had a great flight and arrived fresh and relaxed.

Now, more than two weeks after my return I've checked my FC balance and have been credited for the PE flight but not charged for the last leg upgrade. I've checked my boarding pass and it shows a full price J fare code rather than an upgrade G code. My question is, do I let sleeping dogs lie or do I try and get the extra points and tier points with my J code boarding pass?

Boarding passes always say J (instead of Z, D or G) though your PNR would state the fare code used for your upgrade. If you have not had the miles deducted for your upgrade i would count myself lucky and certianly not try and push for a miles credit - you'll get caught out and probably end up worse off miles wise.

Thanks,
Sarah

Thanks for letting me know that all tickets have a J code. I'll keep checking my fc balance and make sure my fingers are crossed at all times.

The last time that I did a mileage upgrade, the miles were deducted while I wandered upstairs to the clubhouse! I checked my account when I got in there, & they were gone. So, you may have got away with it. [}:)]

As Sarah says, if you do a mileage upgrade, you still only get the miles & TPs for the original booking class.

Some of the outstations still use paper "slips", and this can take some time to process. Don't bank on it...

I've checked today and they've taken to 20K off my balance - at least it wasn't the 40K the chap originally quoted me.

I had the same issue with miles for my upgraded flight not appearing, and not claimable using the online claims system.

When i called FC they said this was normal, the system thinks you should be in PE, and you did n't fly there. It is not intelligent enough to work out you travelled in UC using an upgrade.

They manually added my PE miles for my upgraded LAX UC flight.

So the system resolved itself and you received the miles due, and were debited the upgrade miles. Sometimes VS's systems lose the due miles and tier points, as UKCOBRA rightly says when you upgrade at the airport. The only way to get these is to contact Flying Club directly, as mentioned in the earlier post, since the claim missing miles online function doesn't work in this circumstance.

The situation didn't arise for you, but I would never try to claim J miles and tier points on an upgrade like this, the system does know this one and you'll look like a plum when the 'no' answer comes back [:I]. On the other hand, I have sometimes upgraded at JFK from PE to UC intending to use miles, then these have not been deducted. I can only assume I'd been op-upped and they didn't say that specifically.

I've had 2 Requested upgrades from SFO that never hit my account, however, it was a few years ago, and now they appear to
have become a lot more efficient.
