My first post

Having stumbled across V-Flyer by accident, I have found the information on this site excellent[y].

Could I please ask for your advice and experience?

Early next month, my wife and I will cross the Atlantic on QM2 before returning on 11th June using VS046 (didn’t want the BA flights offered)[:$]. I have purchased a W class PE ticket and used points to obtain my wife’s U class ticket.

We both have over 20,000 flying club points, and at present the VA website displays available Upper Class Z class tickets (cheapest) on VS046.

In your opinions, do you think we have a chance for a points upgrade?

Many thanks

Jeremy

The perceived wisdom is to try a dummy booking using the Spend miles option on the website. If it comes up with seats then there is availability in G class and I would get on the phone straight away to nab them. If not then keep checking or calling FC to see if any seats have been released nearer the date

[y] Perfectly summarised Honey Lamb.

If you (a) have a ticket that is upgradeable in advance, (b) have the miles to spend, and (c) are likely to want to upgrade; the best bet is to do it as soon as possible.

In these situations it may be better to call Flying Club, as they will be able to quickly see if G availability is likely, even if it isn't available immediately.

Hi There

Is your wifes ticket a companion to yours or all points ? If its a companion its not usually upgardable [n]

If thats not the case than based on the availability right now I would say you have a good chance

Thank you all for your help.

My wife's ticket was purchased with 20,000 points when I purchased my W class ticket. All she paid was tax.

I will keep checking for G class tickets. If G class do not become available, do any of you have experience or success of upgrading with points at check in?

Many thanks

In which case, it's a companion ticket and therefore not normally upgradable.

Hi Again

Im not sure that your wifes is a companion ticket at 20,000 ....... a PE companion is 30,000 round trip therefore that would make a one way 15,000. Maybe be worth speaking with FC to see exactly what it is.

Having given it some thought (and if you have enough points) an alternative to enable you to both fly back UC would be to upgrade your PE ticket using points which will be 20,000 one way and then purchase a one way UC for your wife at 45,000.

Cheers

Mark,

Your correct it was 15,000 points I used - sorry to mislead.

Your suggestion is very interesting, I will certainly consider this option. Is their likely to be any availability issues using this method?

Thanks

As far as I am aware .... and Im sure someone will corrrect me ..... as it stands you will not be able to upgrade your wifes ticket because of it being a companion. The only way for her to travel as a companion in UC would be if you purchase a full fare UC ticket and then subject to availability you could companion her at a cost of 32500 points. That is a very expensive way of doing it.

If you have the miles available i would stick with my previous suggestion (unless anyone can think of another way [?] ) but I wouldnt hang around if the seats are available now as Im sure you know there are only a limited number of reward seats on each flight.

Cheers
