I was actually going to suggest Dubai - especially if you go in Oct; nice bit of warm weather just as it begins to colder over here. Also, like the East Coast, it's a relatively short flight; only about six or seven hours.
Of course, it really depends on your preferences - are you looking for a city break, shopping, culture, sun and sand? Have you been to either NY or Boston (or Dubai for that matter) before?

Ironically we got back from Dubai last Saturday - great week away and a short flight (VS UCS).

My sis worked in NY for 5 years so over the visits I got to know the city quite well. But like London there's always more to discover!

Never been to Boston though. Will probably head back to Dubai, but just wondered if anyone had any other ideas.

Not looking for a beach-slob break or a crazy-busy city break - just a change from the norm for a few days.

Thanks
Nick

D.C.! Definitely Washington D.C. Lots of Museums, great scenery and architecture. Think New Yoik without the hub-bub and with a bit of culture ;) Landmarks galore for those photo opportunities too. IAD will be very similarly priced to NYC as well.

Thanks,
Sarah

DC is fantastic - was there for St Patricks 2006 with the boys!! Also, never got to the air and space museum which I hear is awesome!

Thank you HighFlyer - good call!

Certainly is! We were there last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, as well as the Spy museum which was really interesting. There is also the 'other' Air & Space museum near the airport, the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, which is well worth a visit on your way back to Dulles.

Thanks,
Sarah

Is Sept/Oct a good time for tourism (fares and weather)? I'm keen to get a UCS bargain for us.

Great city! Have visited a couple of times but would consider going back. Chicago is nothing like other major US city - the people are welcoming, but not because you;re a tourist and will spend money there...

By Autumn do you think there will be special offers on this route?

Would Miami be a good place to go at that time of year?

We went a couple of years ago for the last weekend in October (the one where the clocks go back) as it is a Bank Holiday over here (just rubbing it in [:p]) The weather was very pleasant - reasonably warm, and the leaves were just beginning to turn

NS - is there anywhere you haven't been recently?;)

I'd go for Boston if I were you, seeing as (surprisingly) you havent't been there before.

See here for info on what to do in Boston.

Actually I was thinking of taking my wife away for our 15th wedding anniversary(suprise) to Hong Kong or Singapore (I have beento Singapore but never HK - wHICH ONE GUYS - HELP - she has never been to the far east but could anybody suggest the best way of getting the best deal (want to do the whole trip in UC + 5* Star hotel etc. Should I go through VH or try direct with the VS. Also best place to stay - I have read over a lot of the trip reports and it get me even more confused on which hotel to pick if I go to HK. If I go to Singapore well it has to be the Four Seasons, I just love it there.

Now now!! Just trying to put the feelers out for peoples oppinion!

Thanks for the link for Boston - think this may be a good call. The IFBT on my last flight said it's her favourite VS destination.

I may look to open-jaw it and have a few days in NYC. Is this a hideously expensive way of doing it?

Thanks
Nick

Echoed my thoughts - October it starts to get cooler but I have had many pleasent stays there at that time of year.

Not sure about offers though, from what I've heard loads are quite good in PE and UCS on the reinstigated flight.

My BOS-NYC is open jaw and it is no different than a straight return flight as the BOS and NYC fares are the same

Miami, is always a nice place to visit but the price of UC, tickets will be way too expensive for a long weekend, Chicago or Boston would be your best bet. :)
