Hey,

i need to travel this route from the 30th July to 6th august (or thereabouts). I want to travel PE - typically a cost conscious traveller (clients paying, gotta bill carefully :/) but I got bumped on my last flight, so i have 50,000 miles to spend.

any tips?

best, james

Hi James,

Welcome to V-flyer :)

A B class economy fare comes out at ~£655. This can be upgraded to PE for 20k miles. Tax would then be ~£195. You'd collect 6916 miles in the process.

Miles plus Money PE comes in at £805 and would cost you 7,500 miles....any good? (see Virgin Atlantic FAQ, Spending Flying Club Miles with Virgin Atlantic)

Or top up by 18k miles for £285. 67.5k miles = PE to NYC. Tax at £195. Total £480....

Regards
Nick

excellent!

given i have a budget of about that for my flight, that's excellent.

Now, how does one go about assuring that the flight will have the upgraded PE cabin?

Just edited as I ignored the most obvious....

£800 to spend?

Well, you can do a LOT better than a PE M+M then...

LJXGB7 fare to EWR on those dates is £480.

Plus taxes/fees = total of ~ £620

BUY an additional 10k miles for £165. Total miles = 60,000 = upgrade from Y to Upper.

Total cost = £785, Upper Class return. And technically, you've only spent around 50k miles, as your L fare will earn as a regular economy ticket. [y]

on the balance of it, that deal is better... (the upper one)

but to add a slight twist; i'm going to be heading to the US a couple more times this year (at least) so would like to spread out for a couple PE rather than going all out for UC. (UC is nice, but would rather save that treat for... later :))

(actually, i go first class in eurostar all the time and while UC on VS seems awesome, i'm not blown away.)

so the m+m deal seems pretty nice; low mile spend and i can invoice my client for the majority of the ticket (full price econ) so i get a fairly pleasant experience but w/o having to spend lots (of either miles nor cash).

so.

how do i make sure it's the new seating?? :)
thx!

You can't... operational factors can change things at the last moment. But the "business routes" timing wise have the best chance :)

Hmm. Snap.

So I'm pretty secure in suggesting that if you're refering to "Business Premier" on Eurostar vs Upper on Virgin, then you're comparing "reserved seating" at your local town hall musical production to a box at the Royal Albert Hall... ;)

(Especially if you factor in that bomb-shelter they call a lounge at Waterloo [:w])

Only issue is the lack of UC G-Class on the outbound date....Outbound PE, and back in UC would be a good call and only "cost" 40k miles :D

Take the VS17 to EWR. All 346s are refitted with new PE seats so assuming they do not switch a/c types on you then you will have the new seating. Personally I prefer the 17 anyway.

Have a good flight.
