Due to fly on the VS16 today and noticed a couple of hours ago that it hadn't left the UK.

Rang VA here in the US and I am now on the VS28 tomorrow, also extended my car hire for the extra day - extortionate price!

This has never happened to me before so would appreciate any advice on any claim I may be able to make - I should hope I would at least get the extra car hire amount back, but as I'm in my own villa there wont be any hotel expenses.

Hi Jilly, having never experienced a cancellation I'm not 100% sure but for starters I'd say take a look at the EC 261-2004 document which outlines the compensation/assistance EU airlines should provide in such a situation.

I've up-loaded a PDF version here. Do you have access to a printer?

That's strange,
VS 15 today is showing on Track Flight as taken off at 14:12 instead of 12:45 with an arrival time into MCO of 16:31 gate 83?

VS16 showing a delay of 500 mins [^]
instaed of departig at 20:10 showing est departure time of 04:30!!!!
est arrival back into LGW 17:35 instead of 09:15

Anyone know what the problem is??

Hi Jilly

Much the same happened to us in Jan, but we were checked in and in the Crown Room, although many were still checking in when we had to go back to check-in to find out what to do. (we had used downtown to check-in)

Upper were giving vouchers for a limo/car to take you to the hotel (the Rosen on International Drive - the huge one at the converance centre) instead of being hearded onto a bus - vouchers for a la carte in the restuarant - a room for the night - vouchers for phone calls (seem to think around $50 but could be wrong)- breakfast and eventually 50,000 miles.

I know premium and economy didn't get anything like the above ( a bus, a buffet, a room and something like 50% of next flight ) but our cancellation was due to a medical diverstion followed by the plane going tech.

We were looked after really well, although communication could have been better but the miles took a while ( i think a couple of months ) to come through after London hadn't received any communication from MCO

Hope this helps (enjoy your extra day ;))

Oh forgot to add - travel insurance was through amex plat and was told to charge upto £200 per day after 24 hours delay and just enclose receipts with claim form - presume it would have been very easy as form was waiting when we got back, but never actually had anything to charge (except for $20 for lunch which wasn't worth the effort)

Jilly - I would have thought that as an UC Pax & Gold FC member, they should at least cover your additional hire car expense, plus a reasonable amount for meals - as you would have doubtless been running down your food supplies in the villa. If you chose to go to a supermarket and get extra food, you'll doubtless cost VS far less in food than the Rosen Hotel would have charged them - even at the discounted rate VS will get.

The use of the Rosen Hotel on I-Drive makes sense for VS - I am pretty certain this is the hotel they use for their crew in MCO. I know a couple of other UK airlines use this hotel for crew too.

Hope your flight home tomorrow goes without any hitches.

Thanks James - yes I've got a printer here.

Alan - the information on the VA site is conflicting to say the least, the departure time of 04.30 it quotes also says the 17th! It now shows the VS15 with no details of today, but just the time for tomorrow.

On the Orlando airport site it states cancelled for both the VS15 and 16 - I usually find this more accurate. I've printed out the page just in case I need more evidence.

David - insurance wise I doubt there's much to claim for and no doubt any excess wont' make it worthwhile.

James you are so right - no food left, fridge empty but I do have a nice bottle of red and coffee for the morning - I'll probaly pop to Publix first though and keep the receipts.

Thanks everyone for your help - I'll let you know the outcome later, for now I'll just keep enjoying the pool and the sunshine.

Jilly

They do have a purple coloured booklet explaining the compensation that they should hand out - if not ask for one - it will be interesting however to see if you can make any sense of it - the whole thing web or paper is a bit of a nightmare and would never get a "plain english" mark

Looks like the aircraft which was doing the VS16 trip yesterday must have gone badly tech, as Virgin have added an additional flight today VS115, so could this be a positioning flight to replace tech a/c in MCO?

(VS27, VS15 and VS115 all scheduled today)

Sorry for the delay in responding - what with building works at home (new roof and extension) and my son's graduation I haven't had a minute to spare.

Flight home on the VS was excellent and left pretty much on time. The staff in UC were some of the best I have experienced, including the FSM.

A generic letter was waiting at the gate for any delayed passengers with an offer of 50K airmiles - I'd be interested on opinions as to whether this was a fair offer. Will do a full TR within a couple of days.

Just an update to this thread. - sorry never did get around to writing a TR and now it's all a blur and quite honestly I can't remember much other than the flight home was excellent.

Within a few days of returning home 10K miles were added to my account, no doubt from the report and details on board I gave to the FSM - she was excellent and also let me select quite a few items from duty free with no charge.

I decided to accept the offer of 50K miles and these were added to my account within days.

Maybe I could have pressed for more compensation but TBH, the extra days holiday wasn't an inconvenience and I'm more than happy with the extra miles received.
