I asked 4 crew members that very question on my last trip - Let me tell you they all said they loved it, but only since VS has changed their hotel. They all mentioned other less favourable destinations but all without doubt said they prefer the long stop over destinations and mentioned both LAS and the Caribbean destinations.

Would be good to here from any crew on v-flyer who either agree or disagree with this

When I was on the flight to Orlando in May, the crew were telling me how they use it for doing their weekly shop trip. With the dollar being so weak they loading up with everything at the supermarket including nappies and washing powder to bring back!

Hey, I dont think crew particularly "hate" the trip. It has more to do with what people prefer? I prefer not to do flights from Gatwick as I commute, it is far easier to commute from Glasgow to Heathrow and vice versa than it is from Gatwick? It also has alot to do with allowances...we get more money (or at least we used to) for a night in New York or Washington, than one night in Orlando. oh and just to put a cat amongst the pigeons [V] we all prefer flying on the brand spanking new v-port fitted aircraft [:w] haha....just kidding!
On the other hand, crew who live nearer Gatwick i.e Crawley, Croydon, Brighton etc all love getting MCO on their roster....the main point tho is I would give 100% on a flight regardless if I liked the route or not..I would hope all crew would do the same...im sure they would! [y]

Have often thought how handy it must be if you're a crew member - to think 'have run out of MAC mascara, never mind, will pick some up tomorrow/next week'.....

and let's face it - most crew don't have kids so will have a single person's view of them. Most of the CabinCrew complaints about MCO seemed to link directly to school hols...

From a CSS point of view I dislike LGW flights becuase the work load is not shared so well. The J CSS has 14 customers and 2 crew to look after and the Y/W CSS has well the rest. So it's a lot of work.

My list of routes I dislike are
NBO - The lack of money
JNB - 2 long night flights for 1 night downroute
MIA - The early Check in and the long flight for 1 night downroute
NRT - Very boring trips and full but quiet flights so the flights go on and on.
DEL - Long flights not good money and demanding customers
BOM - Same as DEL

I think teh list woudl be the same for a lot of crew apart from the JNB lots of crew love them.

SFO - Love the city and the people. Good money too
ORD - Love the city and the people. Good money too
LAS - Exciting place but very busy flights.
HKG - Such a wide awake city and very bright and lively
CPT - Peaceful and the men are gorgeous.
BOS - Short flight.

All the above flights also tend to have nice customers o/b.

It seems some of the destinations make up for what appear to be long flights. I love CPT too - we stayed in the same hotel as the VS crew last November....and they seemed to be having a LOT of fun [}:)]

For night-flights like JNB, how much sleep do crew-members normally get?

I never wanna stay in downroute so love places with loads to do and 2 nights are always better
LAS - once you recover from the flight, best nightlife!
LAX - Sky bar...youl be amazed who you can end up with in there!
CPT - Amazing city and we get 3 days there
JNB - Very social
HKG/SYD - Goodbye my liver. Its like 9 days in the big brother house!
Oh all carribeans are great if its the 2/3/4/5 nighters let the partying begin!

They have always been really good on all our flights, we fly to MCO quite a lot and they have been great, had no problems with any staff.

If i was cabin crew i would get really naffed off when folk kept pressing the call button for silly things, things they could walk right up and ask for.

So how many nights do you get down route then? Is it so many for east coast US, so many for west? Dependent on hours flying - combination of the above???

On last trip to LAS, we stopped our first night in the same hotel as 'our' crew. They were checking in as we did and also some of htem got the courtesy bus to the strip the next morning. A couple of them were talking about routes they'd done and we hoping to do - sounded like quite a nice way of earning a crust to me!

more than one night is unusual. Oz is 2 nights in HKG, 1 night Sydney, 2 nights HKG and some of the Caribbean routes allow more than one night due to frequency of flights.

All LGW flights are extremely busy in Economy with the "leisure" config. It's always a challenge going to MCO during school holidays with at least 150 childrens meal to hand out but the banter with everyone onboard is great and I usually throw in a few competitions to keep the young (and not so young) amused.

As mentioned earlier, commuters find it difficult to get to LGW but as I can almost fall out of my front door onto the aircraft I'm more than happy to do them.

By the way I love going to Narita. It's always a pleasure to fly with the Japanese crew and there's never a dull moment on the flight or downroute.

The loads vary quite a lot. I've done lots of completely full NRTs as well as less than half full flights.

I believe charter carriers have much longer rest periods- partly due to once weekly services.

When PHC was operating the layover in PHC was only 12 hours during the day in a hotel/apartment nearer the airport.

I also think that majority of West Coast US routes are 2 nights downtime are they not?

More than 1 night is not AT ALL unusual!

We get 2 nights (or in some cases lots more than 2 nights) in the following destinations...

LAS, LAX, SFO, CPT, HKG, NRT, PVG, ANU, BGI, GND, UVF, MBJ, HAV.

And one night in the following...

NYC, BOS, IAD, MCO, MIA, ORD, DEL, BOM, LOS, NBO, SYD, DXB, JNB.

So thats 50% of our trips give us minimum of 2 night down route
