Flying Club Question

Hello All, Sorry for the stream of questions but I am really excited about VS coming to SYD!!

I am thinking whether or not should I join the VS Flying Club or the SQ Kris Flyer. I am presently a Diamond MPO on CX (= Emerald Oneworld).

I know the Flying Club benefits are really good, but as I don't just fly VS all the time and I actually plan to switch to Star Alliance.

For the Flying Club, I noted that you get no miles for Y class on a lot on NZ and other Star Alliance sectors.

Can someone suggest which club i should Join.

I normally travel in J or F Class for Long Haul and J or Y Class on Short Haul.

Why not join all the clubs?

As far as im aware, you can be a member of all the FF programmes? That way you can use the airline that suits your travel arrangements better.

We are all die-hard VS fans here and usually prefer not to fly another carrier, but if you feel you will use others then join both.

Where abouts do you tend to fly to? That will be the decider for you.

Plus, there are only a few ticket classes in Economy that you do not get miles, a Y ticket is always a mile earner, and FC will help you buy a ticket that gives you miles if that is important to you. As far as im aware, its only the really discounted economy tickets that do not give miles, promo tickets and the sort. Ones you buy direct from the VA website seem to always carry miles.

Well I am based in SYD. I travel to HKG and LHR quite Often. Also i travel to JFK occasionally.
But sometimes I do take flights to AKL and also SIN.

I know for VS they said NO miles are given for something like Less than 2000 miles in any economy class.

Is this true.

I just want to concentrate on 1-2 FFP so that I can gain the higher status faster. I think I will try to maintain CX's MPO as I am still a loyal Oneworld CX fan. But VS's new UCS is simplt too hard to resist (given the same price or potentially LOWER price than CX's J Class)

I wish VS just join Star Alliance. This way it will make the decision a lot easier.

I just did a quick Comparison on the following airline's FFP:

NZ/BD/SQ and VS

It seems NZ and BD and maybe ALL Star Alliance will not earn any STATUS Credits/points. There = out of questions.

I think either SQ or VS Flying Club will be my choice.

For SQ, unfortuately no Upgrade awards on VS available.And i usually prefer to Upgrade rather than claiming a full ticket (yes I am a Status and Points SLAVE!)
For VS, i can't earn miles on certain Star Alliance Airlines.

so i guess you can't win either way.

Therefore what would you guys recommend me joing (The VS Flying Club seems pretty OK but I find the Tier Points system in not Fair, where you get the same Number of Tier Points no matter you travel to JFK or HKG or SYD? Whereas in other airlines eg. CX, SQ, they base it on the miles you actually travelled.

I actually care more about the Status earned on a FFP rather than the actual FFP. Urmm Whicj one should I join?

Other than the Perceived benefits for you guys, What other benefits do I get for selecting SQ?
