Earning miles on upgraded MpM

Hi guys,

I'm booked on a MpM economy flight in a couple of days. I understand that if I want to upgrade with miles, I have to pay to change the MpM ticket to a qualifying upgradeable fare. If I upgraded to PE, would I earn miles for the economy flight since my paid fare would no longer be MpM?

if you upgrade your MPM fare to higher REVENUE fare and then spend miles to upgrade (from L, for example) you will earn the economy miles, but the original miles you spent on the MPM will remain non-refundable. Why not check what it would cost to upgrade to PE on MPM, which may end up being cheaper, although not earn you miles, may still work out better....?

Well I just upgraded to a PE MpM fare for a decent price. I asked about changing to an upgradable fare and then using miles to upgrade to UC, but was explicitly told MpM fares couldn't be changed in this way. I was a bit surprised, can anybody confirm that this is the case?
