Surely something to do with the fact that LGW and LHR are World Duty Free (BAA) while MAN is Alpha?

Probably a BAA deal, similar to the one they ran some time ago. Perhaps MAN didn't, or couldn't, meet the needs of the promo.

Typical...I'm flying out of Heathrow on 31 July.

Seems VS have now included MAN in this - got an email from FC today at it states:

Now Online Check In is about to get even more appealing. Use it between 1 August and 30 September 2007 when you travel from Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester airports to receive our exclusive money saving voucher.

As a slight O/T, if you are travelling U/C, what is the benefit of checking in online, or apart from the voucher is there any other advantage [?]

Well, there IS one *technical* advantage, but I've never heard of it being proven, as they tend not to oversell J too often.

Essentially, IF the J cabin were oversold, having checked in online you should be "safe". Still - that assumes the J cabin is oversold, something I've never experienced personally (although I'm sure there are others who have [?])

The only advantage that I can see is securing your seat selection but if there's a last minute aircraft-type change then it's no help at all
