Hi,

I am booked in PE for vs45/46 in mid December. I tried to change my seats but the online system would not let me (the picture of the plane does not come up). VS45 shows as 32H/K and VS46 shows as blank. According to the seat map configs on this site 32H/K are Y class seats!!?

I phone Virgin reservations and had a "difficult" conversation with someone I who I presume was in India somewhere. I asked to be put upstairs but apparently its all booked up. She offered me 34A/C downstairs, but again this to me looks like a Y class seat.

Does anyone here have any idea whats going on? Are the seat maps here incorrect, or have me PE seats been put in?

Incidentally the level of customer service really suffers when trying to call to offshore call centres. Half of the conversation was repeated with difficulty on both sides understanding the query. Not good.

I said I would wait until check-in and hopefully get upstairs bulkheads....

Cheers,

Andy

I worked it out. Its because of the refit. Looking on expertflyer, I can see the seatmaps and work it out from there.

Incidentally i note that new PE will have some 2-4-2 configs. Does that mean the seats are smaller?

Yes those call centres are a nightmare but it looks like its the way they are all going! The LHR 744s are gonna be refitted quite soon with more J and W seats...Just checked there are the 45 is showing the new config in dec of 54J 62W & 228Y so that would be why you cant move upstairs as PE is gonna be totally on the main deck on those flights.

Got it in one, the new LHR config!. The 2-4-2 config shouldn't mean the seats are smaller, the PE seats downstairs on the current LGW 744 config are 2-4-2 and IIRC they are the same as the upstairs ones, don't forget the Airbus's are narrower than the 744's which is why they are only 2-3-2.

The seats will be the same size as the 600s... the LGW 744s currently have 2-4-2 on the main deck The 744s are much wider than the 600s!

I share your sympathy - I've upgraded to PE on the way back from JFK in January, confirmed this three weeks ago and have an invoice in my hand to clarify this.... however.

1) - It STILL shows EC and not PE three weeks after upgrading it on VA web site.
2) - Called VA, got directed to VH, then back to VA again and left holding for 25 minutes.
3) - Man at the end of the phone (off shore) couldnt understand my query and asked me if I wanted a new uprade again(?)
4) - I can find CONFIG 4 of the 744 on the "our fleet" section within VA web site - but cannot find it when "managing my booking"
5) - Still no call back, as promised, from VA since 09am to confirm exactly whats going on (or not as the case maybe).

Considering i have:
Virgin credit card
Virgin Media
Always book Virgin holidays and or flights
And im a Virgin Freq Flyer

I'm pulling my hair out!

Any idea why they connected you to VH ? Is that the route through which you made your original booking ?

As to the CONFIG 4 and the managing my booking, perhaps they are not yet sure which of the aircraft will be in the new configuration by the time you travel ?

For your ongoing sanity, assume all these are different companies joined up only the sense of having "Virgin" in their labelling or providing a sales channel between each other.

Actually the issue of seat maps not showing for the 747s for mid December/January was discussed here
