I need to fly to Australia in 2 weeks time. The Virgin flights I would like to take are showing as full so am looking at the Singapore flights. I want to maximise tier points as I'm close to gold. Question - if I fly to Sydney with Singapore is that 2 tier points or 4 (I'll be in the back of the plane :() The virgin site says 2 points for journeys over 2,000 miles, but is LHR->SYD classified as one journey or two with Singapore (like it is with VS)?

Thanks,
Darren

The general rule of thumb is that if it is ticketed as LHR-SYD then its one flight, so one set of points, but if its ticketed as LHR-SIN-SYD, with separate flight numbers, then you should get miles and tier points for each segment (LHR-SIN & SIN-SYD). AFAIK, most SQ to SYD flights seem to ticket as two segments.

Sarah

Can you book a LHR-SIN flight in J as a VS codeshare - the Virgin website only offers Y on this route? If not I assume it'd pick up the 2000+ mile route TP earning as a SQ ticket.

Yes you can, the flights are on SQ metal but prefixed VS, though you should be able to book a J directly from the VS website (availability pending of course).

EDIT - I've just checked now for next March and there is availability. £4210 for a J return to SIN. Seemingly only on Tuesdays and Sundays though [?]

Sarah

Similar question - I've booked a short hop between SIN and Penang, Malaysia in business.

Looking at the VS partner share on the website I think we should get 35k each?

Do you get any tier points for this short journey?

Any bonus for being VS silver?

As the flight is short (<2000k miles) it would be one tier point in J. ISTBC, but i dont think you get any bonuses for being silver. I didnt when i flew MH as FC Ag.

Sarah

Good news, got back and we were given 3 tier points for each leg. Therefore now have a further 6 points, which combined with the LV flights we have in December in PE should give us another 6 - at least we'll hold onto Silver for another year, for what it's worth.

I think the OP flew from SIN to Penang in Malaysia i.e. not on Malaysian. i.e. it was a Singapore airlines flight, <2000 miles, in business, hence 3 TPs each way.

Sorry, my bad. I'd assumed it was on MH not SQ.

Thanks,
