Just wondering if any members have experience of changing flights at late notice.

Basically, my partner and I are to be flying MAN to MCO (PE) at beginning of November. We had originally been flying on VS073 in UC with my elderly parents, who had (mistakenly) booked the same flight in Economy. I tried to upgrade my parents to UC but VS said they could not upgrade them as my parents had booked with an agent and not directly with them. The upgrade price from the agent (BA, of all companies) wanted double (£3000) to upgrade then from Econmomy to UC. No way....

The upshot was that I cancelled my deposit for the UC seats to sit with my parents in Economy (I could not sit in UC knowing my folks were like sardines in Economy!). I then tried to rebook online directly with VS, however, as my luck would have it, in the few minutes it took to cancel, then go online on the VS website, there were no Economy or PE seats availble on VS073.

As we have to fly on the same day as my parents, I had to settle for seats on the earlier VS075 flight, albeit in PE.

I now see that there are economy and PE seats available on the VS073 flights for the day I had originally booked. Do you think VS would be amenable to change the booking for us to fly on VS075, or would they charge.

I did call RESERVATIONS re this, but was put through to Customer Services regarding this, but to be honest, found them to be unhelpful, mostly because I could not understand what she was saying. Foreign call cenre, I think.

Anyone on this forum have any advice or experience of requesting a flight change like this.

Cripes, I thought the Indian Call centre was easily confused, but after reading your post I think anyone could be lol.

There are some experts on here that I am sure will be along soon.

Hi, and welcome to V-Flyer!

Do you know what fare bucket your tickets are booked into? Technically, unless you have a flexible or semi-flexible fare, changes are likely to be limited, and those that are allowed usually have an admin charge attached (probably around £50). If you do hold a non-flexible fare, its down to the good will of VS as to whether they'll allow you to make the change. I would think that it would be a no as they'll likely need to cancel and rebook you, though you may be allowed to pay the difference to convert your fare to a flexible one. It all depends on the fare basis of your tickets. There is a hard learned lesson as to why some tickets are more expensive than others; the ability to make changes.

Call Flying Club back, as they are the ones who ultimately can make the decision, and keep calling back until you get the UK call centre. If its a no, you can always try on the day of departure.

Thanks,
Sarah

In my experience if you call in the evening (8-10PM) you get the UK or Irish call centre.

Thanks Sarah, much appreciated. No idea what the fare bucket is as it was an eTicket and the lowest fare booked through the VS website. For the sake of 3 hours at MCO waiting for VS073, I don`t think I`ll bother changing, and just enjoy any landside facilities at the airport:D
