New Drive In Checkin Problems at LHR

Oppppss looks as if the new limo checkin is not going quite as planned. Was looking forward to checking in at the new facility to find that they are having teething problems with the barrier system for the cars.

Well lets just say it helped write off a Volvo and punch the radiator through the bonnet !!

So for the short term dont be suprised if you are still using the old facility.......

welcome ofarvoo to v-flyer and thanks for the posting re the new uc checking were you there were any pax and the driver ok. do you know if it was a system problem or driver error as they use a system that is not unlike the new access control already in the old uc check in

The driver was NOT to blame in this, it would seem that the new barrier system was at fault. I am not sure if you have seen it, but there is now a two stage system where the car goes into a holding area. The first set of barriers worked fine, but when the car went to go out of the holding area, the second barrier at the front of the car started to raise as the car went over it apparently.

PAX and driver were ok, but I am told big PR to the PAX was required

That would take some doing with a Volvo (I would think). It's lucky nobody was seriously hurt.

Those rising bollards are very powerful, and can easily damage a vehicle which runs into the bollard or tries to drive over it while it's moving.

They are not a new system, they are installed all over the place, so there must be some problem with the implementation at the new drive-up check-in.

The real danger would be if one of the bollards managed to penetrate the passenger compartment.

Hopefully someone is taken to task over the bad design or not doing their job properly.

I just find it comical that the fancy new system has some rather funny teething problems, yes it's good no one was hurt, but a good bit of schandenfreude is enough to brighten anyones day.
