Flight planning challange (LHR to LAX)

I am hoping someone out there can help me find a solution to this.

It's a route planning challenge

I need to leave London (or anywhere in Europe) as late as possible in the day and still get to LAX (or an airport near LA) that same evening/night.

I need to be in the home counties until around 5:00pm.

So a few questions :-

1. What is the last direct flight out of Europe to the west coast, I believe the last out of LHR is ANZ at around 4;00pm.

2. I am sure getting to New York late is easy, but are there any good connections anyone knows of?

Wow that is a challenge for you and I think a very difficult to impossible one to arrive the same day.

I did a scan on Exert Flyer and there are some hard options, e.g. leave LHR to Narita at 7 pm, then connect to LAX from there and arrives at 0945 on the next day via some weird time zone differences.

Otherwise, all the options seem to say fly to New York then have a night at an airport and connect for an early am to LAX from there.

As for the latest flights from Heathrow they are to New York at 815 pm and for the west coast even the NZ1 leaves at 2.25 pm and the last is the VS23 at 3.10 pm.

Looks like it's going to be fun ...

Concorde could have helped.

There's an American flight out of JFK at 6:45 that gets into LAX just before 10am - any late night flight into New York should be suitable.

Again not ideal but...
