Ok, probably a stupid question (shut it GJ!) but will the price of a specific fare code change? Looking to book an L fare to SFO next October and been quoted £684 but I'm not sure if the fare is likely to change. Obviously Economy prices will vary depending on what fare codes are available but do they play with the prices of each code too? and am I best to wait a bit as the flights have just been released?

TIA

ISTBC, but Yes!

When sale fares are announced, they are still in the standard buckets, but are often vastly different to those that were offered prior to and post sale.

I am sure there is fluctuation over the months as well.

I could be pedantic and say specific fare prices don't change, but I think you're generalising fares. As in your example, you are probably buying a LWGB7 which would be it proper fare basis and that fare basis is loaded and set.

What I think you meant, was do the prices of certain fare codes change? Such as a N, X etc - then yes as they will have different fare basis. So a general X fare may be loaded, but a cheaper sale fare in X may be loaded at a later point.

For an L though, they won't change as the sale fares never touch the L, B or Y codes. They are fixed, and will only change in price by season and weekday/weekend.

Thanks Richard & Nick[y]

So if I understand you right, what you are basically saying is the L fare I have just been quoted today is not likely to change? So I should book it and the 2 G's post haste?

Thanks,
Neil

Thanks Richard.

I cannot see many circumstances that I will ever buy from the L B or Y buckets (unless the companion ticket rules change drastically), so my knowledge of them is somewhat limited. ;):D

G fares - the only thing rarer than a politically correct post by GJ... [}:)]

Yes basically, that L fare will not change in price (unless you move from a weekday to weekend - £30 difference)

The L they've quoted you Neil looks excellent value for SFO compared to what we paid for BOS - go for it [y] We purchased L's for BOS flights next June (for upgrade to G's) and paid £697.20 broken down as follows >>

Fare GBP 495.00
Taxes/Fees/Charges/Surcharges YQ81.00 GB80.00 XT41.20
Total GBP 697.20

Can't quite get my head round why your L's to SFO costs less than our L's to BOS....Richard may know? [:?]

Normally down to fare seasons, but June is same season (J) as late-Aug until end of Oct. But there is something strange going on - SFO is cheaper than BOS for an L. [:?]

So for BOS next year:
548+tax - FOR -JWGB8 TYPE FARES PERMITTED 01MAY 08 THROUGH 30JUN 08 OR 18AUG 08 THROUGH 31OCT 08 ON THE OUTBOUND TRANSATLANTIC SECTOR.

For SFO:
518+tax - FOR -JWGB8 TYPE FARES PERMITTED 01MAY 08 THROUGH 30JUN 08 OR 18AUG 08 THROUGH 31OCT 08 ON THE OUTBOUND TRANSATLANTIC SECTOR.

Neil, I think the person that quoted you has not included the extra £40 of APD needed when you move up from the lowest class of travel. James, your agent has quoted with the full £80 of APD, though I think you may have got the old -JWGB7 fare at 495+taxes.

Thanks Richard. I booked the L's through Flying Club. For clarity's sake, is this all best left as is or are you suggesting I question the calculation of our L fares?

Cheers

Yes sorry I knew I had another £40 tax on top for when I upgrade to UC, but I was just interested in the L fare.

For for the advise guy, I best get booking.

...so for our L's to BOS, should we only have been charged £40 rather than £80....confused [:?]

If you book a L but travel in PE or UC (via a mileage/paid upgrade), then it is £80 APD.

Thanks,
Richard

Thanks for the clarification Richard. Still beats me how SFO comes up cheaper than BOS though!

Does a similar arrangement work in PE? Whereby a K class fare can alter with sales etc, but an S or W remain static.

Thanks

Yup [y]

And Upper too: Z's alter, D's and J's tend to be pretty predictable.
