I've been assigned seats for my forthcoming trip to IAD in Aug (as shown on my confirmation email) and I am checking regularly to see how busy it will be. For the past three days now I cannot check as this message keeps appearing

" We're sorry. The seat map is not available at this time. Your seats will be assigned at check in."

The inbound flight assignment are showing the correct seats.

Does this mean that my husband and I could in theory be split up? We are booked into PE. Should we arrive extra early on the day?

Hi Anna,

I'm not sure your question is directly related to expertflyer.com - more the Virgin Atlantic seat selection page. I'll move this to "general discussion" for completeness.

That message typically means that all pre-bookable seats are now gone I'm afraid.

Hi Anna

If, in "Manage my Booking", you expand "Passenger Details", then you expand each passenger, does it still state both the outbound and return seat numbers for each passenger?

Aren't you going to use online check-in 24 hours before departure?

Hmm. VS21/11 Aug is showing the following (pre-bookable) seats free:

13 in Y, spread out, 2 sets of 2 available in the middle sections of row 38/39
1 in PE, 23F
22 in J

So, my guess is that your booking is a combined one for 2 people? With only 1 seat free to be pre-booked, that's why it's preventing you from doing so.

Hi Boo,

Just checked "Manage my Booking" as you suggested and all is well. Correct seats are still assigned to us. Thanks for that tip.

I thought, from the original post, that she already had seats assigned and that she just can't "see them" (i.e. on the seat map) anymore... (hence why I asked if the seat assignment were still showing up under "Passenger Details"...) [?]

Great - glad that you have some "peace of mind" :). You might want to use Online Check-in, 24 hours before, to give your seat allocation a little more "security".

That's interesting[:?] I wonder whether there will be a chance of an upgrade to UC?

With the DC route full, there is a chance of an upgrade. Although the upgrades normally go to Gold FC passengers first.
Having said that I did get upgraded as a Red FC member to JNB last year, so there is always hope.

I fly this route fairly often, and normally PE is full, and UC has plenty of free seats, so keep your fingers crossed.
