Vaulting in Upper and other amusements

Yes, it's a dull Friday so thought I would pose a few questions and see what other common amusing questions we can share. Hope there's some other interesting ones and apologies if there's too much in this one post.

Q: In Upper ( with J2000 ) window seat what is the best technique for 'vaulting' over the sleeping passenger in the aisle seat next to you? ( Hint to Virgin, rather than a hot water bottle, provide a pole instead )

Q: When does it become appropriate to serve yourself / cabin crew drinks from the bar?

and a more general one:

Q: What's the funniest thing to have happened to you on a flight?

Will answer my own questions as well.....

Apart from don't get the window seat, my technique has been either to try to straddle in a scissor fashion ( which can be difficult when the cabin lights are down ) or if there's no one behind, squeeze through between my seat and the window. Thinking about it now, the more obvious answer would to go and sit in the spare seats behind. Duh.

Not served myself at the bar yet, but only flown Upper to/from New York so far, so not too much time to kill. In October I'll probably have my last taste of J2000 when doing LHR-JNB.

Funniest thing on a flight : Probably pouring a drink over myself in a Joan Collins / Leonard Rossiter stylee when on BA earlier this year.

I have found that the Staff don't like you doing that at all - naturally the y won't say but I certainly got the message;)

Correct crew don't like it but then again somebody should be there to serve.After a pax serves the first drink crew seem to arrive.I sit tight and tell a newbie at the bar its self service then they get the dirty look:D

If I have the window seat its only the Mrs who I am treading on but more often its her treading on my head getting out,so no probs there.

Not a VS flight, and not exactly funny, but on my 2002 trip to Egypt we took an internal to Cairo from Sharm el Sheikh. What should have been a short flight took forever. We were delayed two hours, upon reaching Cairo we were forced to circle for an hour and i got to see the Saqqara pyramid from the air (which is miles away from Cairo)

We were circling at a 45 degree angle for most of that hour and many pax were sick, then during the much awaited but very rough landing, all of the over head lockers opened and most of the baggage fell out into the aisle and onto pax. Two (what can best be described as) ceiling tiles from the cabon roof also fell off and landed in pieces on top of two scared looking travellers.

I dread that re-occurence every time i hear the words 'Egypt air' LOL

Never had that problem as was in the centre isle every time ive been in a J2000 config!

I always just tell the crew im going to be here a while and am happy to self serve....I needed to call them up for more mixers though as my G had ran out of T

on virgin - I remember my first flight a fa leaned over me thrusting her breasts in my face! I was quite young at the time so I went very [:I] she appologised I think I managed to squeak no problem!

PAssengers should not serve themselves at the bar, instead a you should wait patiently for a crew member to arrive or go to the Galley and ask for help.

After all if you were in a bar in town you would not help yourself to a drink if there was no bar tender there would you?

Yeah but you have to pay for your drink in town but not in UC:D

Well, on my last UC flight I was told to help myself..so I did

you should come and live in the countryside
My local, if the gaffer is busy, or doing something else, the locals are quite happy to serve themselves AND put the right money in the till!
Not abused at all, and if some "Dang Stranger" com,es in, we will serve them, we don't take trust THAT far! [}:)]
