Ok 2 questions here one for crew and one for the likes of airchab!

1st: How long do VS crews get in each destination. Am i correct in believing that on a NYC flight they only receive 24 hours in NEw York? Is this the same for IAD and BOS? How do they decide how long each crew gets? Do all the crews stay at the same hotel? Do crews say every fly into NRT and out of PVG? Just wondering how the stay systems work. What about stand by crews?

2nd: How many spare a/c do VS have at LHR + LGW- persumably if an a/c goes tech and cant fly they have to bring another one in but if say all a/c are flying what do they do? How does it all work? Is there at least one a/c that spends the day on the ground (strikes me as waste of money)

Cheers guys!

Hi Will

A quick answer to question 1...I'm sure a crew member will be able to elaborate further. Generally (AFAIK) it's one night in the hotel for east coast USA flights (incl Florida), LOS, Caribbean and 2 nights for west coast USA, Far East, JNB. On the whole crews return from the same airport although there are exceptions eg the Caribbean where they shuttle around as there aren't daily flights to each destination.

Re yr 2nd question, we don't have any dedicated standby a/c although there are always 'gaps' built in for maintenance and longer turnrounds so if there are any tech problems or whatever then the gaps tend to get shortened! Fortunately don't go majorly tech very often! ;)

Cheers

So VS operate like ANZ who dont have stand by a/c and when an a/c does go tech you have to wait for another plane to arrive. I had this from Akl_NAN had to wait for a 763 from SIN to arrive and be used as our 763 went tech. would this be how VS would do it?
