Hi

I just wanted to know if anyone had gone for the champagne special occasion deal on a flight? My parents are travelling to visit me in the USA (their first visit to the States) and unfortunately I could only afford economy for the pair of them. However I would like to spoil them as much as possible on their journey - I have already booked them into the lounge in Gatwick on the way home and a hotel on the way out (they are travelling from Scotland on BA) and I would love to make their on-board time as great as I can. Any help or advice gratefully accepted.

Also any top tips - they are flying Edn - LGW - LAS.

Thanks for looking at the post

Hi asks

I am afraid your second request is not likely to yield much currency on the Board - its the sort of thing cabin crew hear regularly 'Can I be upgraded it is my xth birthday', you know the drill.

However, if you order the champagne on-board the crew will know it is a special occasion for you parents and I am sure that most of them would normally keep and eye out for them. So in many ways, buying the bubbly most likely will do the trick! There are people on here who have used the bubbly service - I am sure they will be along soon. Essentially you get a half bottle of pink bubbly as I recall and a pair of glases. All tres romantique! Did you know VS also do cake, mmumm CAKE, got'a love CAKE.

To book a celebration gift, you will need to call the VS duty free pre-order number (+44 870 190 3003). You can order anything from their current catalogue as a celebration gift but they do also offer the following special celebration gifts:

Virgin Atlantic Celebration cake - £12.00
Moet & Chandon Brut Rose gift pack (37.5cl - half size bottle) - £16.00
Moet & Chandon Veuve Clicquot with ice jacket (75cl - full size bottle) - £26.00
Mumm Gift Pack & 2 Flutes (70cl - full size bottle) - £25.00

All the above celebration gifts come with a card bearing your own personalised greeting.

All pre-order duty does need to be ordered at least 5 days before the flight though. They only accept orders upto a maximum of 3 months in advance.

If you also spend more than £20, you will also get 1 Flying Club mile per £1 spent on pre-order gifts.

We did the cake thing for our daughter last year after her GCSE results. Without going overboard the cc made it feel like an 'event', cut the cake for us, brought us some bubbly to go with it and rounded the whole thing off nicely when we were disembarking by congratulating her.

You could always book them into the servisair lounge at EDI. Its quite nice and quiet and the girls at the desk are very good.

Although its usually not too busy, EDI is a nice airport that is growing all the time, so its nice to get a bit of quiet time before the start of a long trip.

Hi

Thanks for all your replies. I like the cake idea - can you confirm the Mumm (quite appropriate!) giftpack can be consumed on-board? IE can they get it cold or is it just from the duty free trolly?
Thanks for the tip on the cake - I didn't realise they did that - althoguhis cake appropriate for 'first time to USA' rather than a grad/birthday etc - not sure??

David you are quite right about my second paragraph and I never really thought of it like that - I do not want to put any crews backs up by this request so I have taken it out of my post. Thankyou.

I will look at the Servisair lounge option as well - like that and had forgotten about the Edn part of the trip so again thanks.

I'm really not sure if VS allow you to consume the celbration packs on-board ot not [:?] Other might have a better idea on that one.

I would say the Mumm wont come chilled as it comes in a box with the 2 flutes. All the celebration packs are pre-order only so they will have to be loaded specially onto the flight.
