Flying Club miles

Just a quick question..

I'm travelling to LAX with a friend in April, am I able to use the miles flown for both of us on my Flyinc Club account?

Welcome to the Forum Andy,

Here's the over view:

You can spend miles in your account on tickets for other, however you can't combine miles from two accounts for one ticket. Equally, you can only earn miles for the trips you take (ie, your friend can't earn you miles for his flight).

The exception to this is the Gold Card's Supplementary Silver. This is where a Gold Card holder has nominated a partner account (which is automatically Silver, unless of course that account in its own right has achived Gold). A Gold Card holder can spend miles from both accounts.

Welcome Andy,

I recently booked a UC return LHR-LAX for my wife. We are both FC Silver. We needed 80K miles for the return reward ticket. We used 40K miles from her account for the outbound leg and 40K miles from my account for the inbound leg. So there is no problem combining miles from different accounts, providing each journey is paid for in full from a single account. Hope this helps.

Err actually Bazz you can combine 50% each on a journey, but a journey can be defined as a OneWay if you catch my drift.

Upper Class Return 80k
Could also be booked as 2 One Ways @ 40K each

Person A can pay for 1.5 of the One Ways - so 60K miles
Person B pays the other half of the One Way - 20K miles

That was not how it was explained to me. When I first called to book the reward flight we had collectively 86K miles. Pam had 37300 on her account. I was told the only way we could book was for each of us to pay for one leg so Pam needed another 2700 miles to get to the 40K. A hasty order was placed with Virgin Wines earning another 3000 miles and once they were posted, I called back and was able to make the booking.

It was my first booking of a reward ticket so I didn't know exactly what the procedure was, you have far greater experience in these matters. Maybe they didn't inform me of the 50% facility because I didn't have the 60K miles on my account that we would have needed, so we could not have booked it that way anyway?

If you make the reward booking online you will get a discount on the miles need.

I got a return Upper Class reward flight to San Frnacisco for 78K. The limo service is still 10K each leg though - this can only be booked my calling Flying Club though.

Booking your reward flight online is great if the booking is fairly straight forward and the discount miles are always a nice bonus but if you have any complicated requests, you have to call. [:(]

Spending miles is just so very confusing...Is the reward ticket HAS to be booked through Virgin? Can I buy an economy ticket through a travel agent then at a later date use my miles to upgrade to PE or UC?? If yes, is the economy ticket has to be of certain fare class?

I thought I had read somewhere that I could elect to share my account with someone else (eg-my son) so I could draw on his miles. Clarification?

I think if you are a Gold Card holder you can either (1) set up a kids account or
(2) Set up a Supplementary Silver Account(SSA). The person ( correspondance address has to be the same as the main card holder) gets silver and you can use miles form thier account also. This I think is valid for as long as you maintain GOld status.

From the VS website:
A flying club family account allows up to three members of your household aged between 2 and 17 years to earn miles on qualifying Virgin Atlantic flights. Any miles they earn will be automatically transferred into your flying club gold account, so that you can spend them on whatever you wish. To request an application form, please call your helpline.

They upped the age as before it was kids upto 12 - as we all know that at age 12, kids become adults for airline ticket purposes. And at Disney, kids become adults at a younger age ?????

You can apply for a supplementary silver account for someone aged 18 years or over sharing your home address. Whilst they enjoy the benefits of silver membership, you will be able to spend miles from their account in order to reach rewards more quickly. To request an application form, please call your helpline.

Please note that both of these benefits are only availabe to Flying Club Gold members.
