I have or will have 38 points by my cut off date to reach 40 (Jan 2005). Is there anyway they will let this go and move me up to gold or could I purchase an economy ticket etc. Anyone got any good ideas because it seems a shame to miss gold by 2 points!

Regards

Marcus

I can't see any reason for them to 'promote' you at 38 points when the standard for prmotion is set at 30. If you want to get to Gold, I think you need to get an extra two points. A single EC trip on VS would do it (and the points from the return would count towards the 30 points you need for next year's renewal. A business class return on BMI would also get you two points, and might be quicker and cheaper.

I don't think they'll promote you even if you're 1 point short - (not wanting to sound too harsh here, but...) after all, why should they when the promotion criteria is 40 TPs and it's the same for everybody?

As Helen says, there are ways to get your 2 TPs - a business class BMI return would probably look favourite, depending on your plans :)

Note that you don't actually have a "cut-off date" to reach 40 TPs - your renewal date as a silver member doesn't mean that your TPs zero out. Remember that TPs only have a life span of 12 months, so actually, come February if you get 2 points + however many drop off in January, you'll be up to Gold - see Richard Mannion's TP Guide.

Cheers

Michael
