Hi, just wondering what peoples preference was when flying in UCS on LHR Config 747s? Coming back from JFK before XMAS and at present I have been given seats 15/16A downstairs. Had a look at the seat ratings and all seem pretty similar. Wondering whether to go upstairs or stay downstairs? Any advice gratefully received.

UCS is slightly narrower on the upper deck with a smaller arm rest (the same as the Airbus UCS), although UCS is supposed to be slightly longer in bed mode up there.

The over-head lockers on the upper deck are also smaller too.

I personally prefer the main deck, although not tried it since VS made the entire upper deck UCS.

Regards

I think you have good seats, in fact these are my favourites. You're in the front cabin which is spacious and quiet with no foot fall through, seats on the same side for two are IMO better for being together and talking (if you want to be really cosy go for the very front two), the UCS here is the most spacious too - as said, it is tighter upstairs especially in the back half where the newer seats are narrower still than the front half (by observation when in them only), you get the benefit of the cabin height, width, hat racks (as they used to be called) and plenty of wardrobe space, you're near the loos, there's always staff in the galley so there's always someone to ask (it can be less so upstairs) and it's quieter than the B cabin and away from the bar.

Seating is, however, a preference and others will have different views. Many prefer upstairs however my preference has always been the forward cabin - especially now (unfortunately) that the IFBTs are gone and there's less traffic as a result.
