If you get away from SF city centre, into the residential areas you can normally find a few bars where you can still enjoy a smoke and a beer inside. It has a slight prohibition feel about it, ashtrays hidden under the table, keeping one eye on the door, quite fun really.
I know it's bad and nasty, but smoking is now a great way of meeting people in the US, it's a real us against them menatlity.

Yeah - I've had some real good conversations outside bars with other folks banished to enjoy a smoke

(Not that I generally stay in SF centre anyhow, unless there's a Giants game on - I have friends up in Napa Valley

In many of the Irish bars/pubs they're still quite open about it. Ashtrays right out on the table. I've very rarely seen anyone by to issue citations and once the guy stuck his head in the door and announced in a very loud voice, "I will be coming inside to enforce the smoking ban. But first I must tie my shoe. This will take five minutes."
i was enjoying the build up to a fight
when you are out side the topic it can be quite funny seeing the 2 opposing sides building up their point
to be honest if you read it back i am sure both of you will laugh
i am a very positive never smoker and remeber one of my greatest moments was when i was very ill on a bma flight to spain and had to be given oxygen for a long time and so the flight was made non smoking because of this boy were the smokers upset with me !!!!seems years ago that you could smoke on planes:)

I don't mind not being able to smoke on flights, in fact quite happy about it. Something about that ingrained stale smoke smell that (almost) makes me quit;). Bit worried about an upcoming weekend in Dublin though, I can't imagine an Irish bar without a thick fug (I said fug)
