Hotels at LGW

I'm about to book a hotel at LGW for our flight in the summer. Does anyone have any recommendations...or ones to avoid!

I can only speak from my own experiance, but either the Hilton or Le Meridian are excellent.
The Hilton has the added advantage of being connected to the South terminal, where you have to take the shuttle from north terminal with Le Meridian. Both are expensive but give you the ability to wander to check in either twilight or morning when you want

One of our guys regularly uses the Holiday Inn. Not that that is saying much... but it only costs him about £80...

I've stayed at both the Hilton and Le Meridian, and the second was definitly the best of the two.

The room I had at the Hilton could have done with 'a lick of paint' shall we say...very disappointed.

I've stayed at the TravelLodge - not very exciting but fine if you just want a bed for the night that doesn't cost too much. You need to book the airport transfer for the morning though, I seem to remember.

Agree with Matt. Having stayed at Le Meridien and Hilton, Meridien wins hands down.

Got a great deal at Le Meridien including 15 days parking in May with http://www.holidayextras.co.uk/ who matched Avawebs(Superbreaks) online price of £122. Not much more expensive than parking and a nice relaxing start to a holiday.

We like the Renaissance - for the Marriott points - it isn't too far away.

If points are not an issue - slk's advice to have a look at http://www.holidayextras.co.uk to see what deals are available on your travel dates is a good move.

Ive always used the hilton not spectacular but its not bad and connected to the VS terminal and the railway station.I used to get good rail inclusive deals through supperbreak about £200/£300 for 2 adults 1 child with first class rail from Newark(GNER) or from Chesterfield/Nottingham (midland mainline) plus club class Gatwick Express and a nights room at the hilton.Have not done it for 18 months though.

Le Meridien or the Hilton, as they're both connected to the airport, it makes things so much easier in the morning.

Of the two I think Le Meridien is much better, it is a bit pricy, but if you get car parking included then it soon becomes a bargain.

I go for the Hilton myself.

( Warning: Possible bias here as I have HH diamond status so get upgraded to a newer executive room with lounge acess ( free booze until 10pm approx plus free breakfast in the loung in the mornings )

I will be there next Thusday 29th April before VS27 to MCO on the 30th.

I have stayed a couple of time at the Effingham Park Gatwick. It is a 4*Copthorne Hotel so you may get miles. Has a large car park and was very comfortable.
Downside is that you need to use the shuttle to get to the airport, but if you go longer than the 15 days, extra days are only £ 4.50.
Booked with holidayextras, as a bit chaeper than superbreak.
Also stayed once at the LeMeridien, which is very posh, but you have to park in the long term car park.

I'm booked into Le Meridien in June for ST Lucia holiday, stayed there before when going to Orlando, very nice hotel and nice and easy start to the day of travel being connected to Gatwick.

One thing I would reccommend considering is using the twilight check in service at Gatwick, where you can check in the day before you fly, I think its from 15:00 day before, so you can get rid of all your luggage and get a boarding pass/seat assignment without all the queues on the early morning checking on day of departure, also I got an emergency exit row seat with more legroom as they only release them at checkin time and cannot be pre-booked.

Last year I checked out of hotel at 09:00am, and went straight through to passport control and took off at 10:30am, much better than queuing up for checkin with hundreds of other passengers at 7:00am!!!
