UC row 6

My parents have just departed for BGI this very morn (the swines). They had pre-booked seats in row 7, but at twilight check-in last night were assigned 6, which can't normally be pre-booked. We tried for this on the same route last year, but were told it wasn't possible because twilight check-in staff aren't VS staff.

Off to ANU in a month (pre-booked row 8) and would like to emulate my parents in shuffling up to 6 - is their experience the norm now?

I dont have any experience of this but I would guess that row 6 is held back for Flying Club Gold members and released at check in if there are none with bookings.

Is there any practical advantage to row 6 other than prestige???

Row 6 is really the best of the bunch for LGW UC. No one in front, bit more room to move in and out, and away from the so called 'bar' area.

I agree, row 6 is probably the best in the UC cabin. Plenty of room in front which means the person in 6A/K can get out without disturbing the person in 6C/H, even when the seat is at full stretch. However, this is offset by smaller TV screens that seem to be heavily scratched caused by stowing in the armrest. Also, main closet for bags and coats is right in front of you, which sometimes means people passing by to get bags etc during flight.

I talked to the Premier team on the FC Gold helpline and she said that row 6 was often held back for special needs paasengers.
She said she could put me in row 6 ( FC Gold) but that if a special needs passenger came along I would be moved.

I'm happy in row 7 ( LGW-MCO) and will ask at check in on the day of deaprture.

I know I had a bit of a limp the day I sat in 6A, but Special Needs! Perhaps I should apply for an equity card!:D

Thanks for all the comments. Parents are early 60's but think they're 40. Will break their obvious 'Special Needs' status to them on their return!

we have booked lgw-mco in uc through vh and have been told that they will reserve our seats in row 6 as my daughter is wheel chair bound and i have mobility problems so we class as special needs

I got row 6 on an operational upgrade in December - and was (and still am) only a lowly Silver . I was in 6H and there wasn't much accessing of the closet to speak of - i think only a few of us were using it, and only one or two for bags.

Funnily enough I called VS yesterday about seating requests for my family in December and the type of aircraft as their seat maps show a 742 rather than a 744, however, that in another topic.

I also mentioned this about my flight in May to MCO and that I'd already booked seat 9c which the nice lady checked and confirmed. I then said 'I can't pre-book 6a can I!' to which her reply was, if you call us and ask then it can be done at which point she booked it for me[^]

It is all rather conflicting as when I booked my 9c a couple of months ago the agent said they couldn't pre-book that seat!!

I guess it depends on the agent that you get when you call.

We are off to MCO on holiday in August and after much research I asked for three seats in row 6 both out and return. I got them!:D

So maybe it's the gold status, maybe the individual at Virgin. Whatever, another great bit of customer service.

Dreading the imminent downgrade to Silver...

The Premier team do let Golds book row 6 on the proviso that you may get moved if a special needs passenger needs them. For instance, I've booked row 6 for our flight later in the year so we can play footsie on the overnight flight.

I and Mrs GO have 6A/C on our BGI flights later this year.
Whether this was because of AU or because I am on the special needs* database I am not sure.
