Hey I value my time on a plane for many reasons:-

a) First and foremost - the lovely crew, some more than others ;)
b) Whole of list of reasons
c) Because I can't be contacted or spend hours surfing for nonsense on the web!

I have a SmartPhone from work, and nothing pleases me more than switching it off when I step onboard the plane.

The interesting debate though comes to Wi-Fi that many laptops have built-in now, and most of the time it is on broadcasting away happily. I switch mine off via Control Panel or via the handy switch if I am using my Toshiba Tablet - in the past though its amazing to see how many ad-hoc P2P WLAN's you cna pickup in UC when you login :) Can't remember which Airbus it was, but one has recently been certified as Wi-Fi safe - maybe thats the way forward, Wi-Fi Internet onboard - at which point I will need to make sure they make it so expensive so that I'm not tempted to come here and answer VS questions from the air on a VS plane.

Pix - I've made a few calls before from the plane at $9/minute - just to wish someone happy birthday or some other anniversary - best place to do it is in Economy - the shocked faces when peopel see you making a $9/minute call!

Thanks,
Richard

Totally agree with you - it's so nice to have some peace & quiet :)

I think that the airline industry does have some work to do now that laptops are coming with Wi-Fi built in. It makes me shudder to think how many people wouldn't think to switch it off (or even know their laptop has it built in!) [:0]

Cheers

I can back that up. My friend switched on his iBook, forgetting the WiFi was still enabled. Immediately saw two other ad-hoc networks, tried browsing their files, but could only see their computer names - it was all password protected ;) This was in Economy Plus on a United 747.

Indeed - seems quite reasonable. Still, I'm happier with mine turned off - at least no-one can call me, and I can't read my email either :D

Cheers

Guy Kewney? Christ on a bike. I used to work with him 20 years ago!

There's a coincidence.
