My paper statements always seem to show more TPs than I have the online is always correct your TPS zero when you first hit gold but then after that I assume they zero when your 13 month rolling year is complete.

Flying PE in July will give me 6 leaving 14
Do I

b) do 1xPE (6) 2xEcon(8)
to get 14?
answers on a postcard please:D

Jonathan - whatever you decide to do to try and creep back over the threshhold, I would check with the FC to make sure their maths agree with yours. It would be awful to go on a few mileage (tier point) runs and then miss out due to a different interpretation of the rules.

When is the TP calculator going to come on-line on the VS site[?]

or do an RTW escapade, currenlty £890 in ecomony, can be done in 4 days and you will earn 10 tier points and earn 28,323 miles then a quick run from LGW to Atlanta or Cincinati and you will earn the remaining 4 and double miles under the current promotion

I reckon in 2 weekends for £1500 including food and a Room in Aukland you will get your points and earn about 50,000 miles

Or how about 7 returns from London to Manchester in business class with BMI? You'll see a lot less of the world, granted, and it will still cost £1500 - £2000 but you could probably do 2 or 3 of the returns in one day, so three days would be sufficient to complete the task.

thanks for the suggestions:D
although manchester is tempting for the same money RTW seems better if only for the airmiles and passport stamps
BTW what airline(S) do rtw that qualifies for VS points?

maybe I should wait for some good 20yr Birthday specials?

The escapade ticket is for three airlines: Virgin, Singapore and Air New Zealand. All will give you tier points and miles, Singapore being particularly generous in that they are only current method of earning 7 tier points on a single flight (First Class) but not cheap though! Air NZ tier points are not particularly generous - none award for economy travel of <2000 miles for example.

That does mean an alternative option is for a single First Class return to Singapore, but that is certainly going to be more than £1500!

Hmm anyone heard if and birthday specials are comming up?
Hopefully not special enough to not earn miles!

thats a great website!
did a quick routing
heathrow to capetown - 6013
to Singapore - 6004
to Sidney - 3909
to LA - 7489
back to lhr - 5439

not a bad way to fly 28854 miles
(how would I calculate Tier Points?)

I'm the same, think I'll be 5 TP short of maintaining Silver next year. Red at the mo but will be Silver in Oct and my UC reward flight I'm doing won't count will it?

Probably end up doing a PE return to NY next May for my usual trade show (ie excuse for a weekend away!) :)

If your silver in october you'll have earned at least 15 tp's
during the following year ie oct 05 you'll need 10 tps to retain silver (1 uc or 1pe +1 econ) roundtrip

that's fairly do able in you fly a few times a year;)

no points for reward trips (that'd be too good!)

unless you upgrade a paid ticket(correct fare code) to UC then you get the TPs and miles for the original ticket a bit like having your cake and eatting it:D

better still an op upgrade free cake to have and eat:D

Suppose thats a possibility, don't think I want to spend the money though, I'm already paying for half of the other half's UC ticket.

Doing EC out and PE back for one trip so just have 5 TP to make. Yeah should be fine. Can't go back to red, the snob that I am :)

I have this silly fanciful idea that I can make gold. I think I need to get a grip. Or win the lottery!

That reminds me, I better do my numbers...

Last year was the time to Go for Gold!
virgin were doing an offer so you only needed 30TP's not 40!

of course if you were gold already 20TP was enough to keep it last year!

30 Tiers is a lot (7.5 econ trips)
but I have 10 so that leaves a managable 20! (5 econ trips)

Phoned VSFCG today..

they said the ten tier points I have wont vanish until 6th sept
that leaves 2 months to get 14 TP as I'll earn 6 in Jul on my MCO flights

A Super Cheap Zulu fare is a 42 day apex so need to book that by mid july

Then I'll squeeze in a cheap econ weekend somewhere and i'll be a golden boy for another year!

NYC for the econ trip

Where shall I go for my UC Z flights?

Cheaper option fly to sinagpore
fly 1st class to Kuala Lumpur =5tpX2 =10TP!!
cost about £130 quit so less than a grand by the time you get to singapore
compare to over twice that for the cheapest UC zulu fare!
nothing to stop you doing a few flights at 100 quid a pop! and upping those tier points!

whats the expression for flying for the sake of earning miles?;)

I started a booking on the Singapore Air website - for dates in July, it said only a full fare was avilable which is 496 singapore dollars - at current tourist rates that equates to £170. Not bad at all.

A mileage run - most beloved of our American friends! See the FT boards for some true masters of this art! (Actually this would probably be termed a status run since it's for tier points, not mileage.
