yes you can register this holiday and anyone taken within the last 6 months for airmiles - either on-line or by telephone. If you only fly once a year it will take some time to build up airmiles to use for for free flights but upgrades start from 10,000 miles. We only fly 3-3 times per year but use a virgin credit card for all our outgoings and that along with the flights adds up over a year.

Welcome to the forum, blackpoolowl.

I think the best advice I can give you is to have a tour round this site and the VS site http://www.virgin-atlantic.com .

On both sites you will find a whole host of ways of earning points to supplement your annual flight. The quickest way is by way of the Flying Club version of the Virgin Credit Card

http://uk.virginmoney.com/vaa-credit-card/

There are lots of other ways including hotels, car hire, wine etc. etc.

As jilly has said, you can still get points for flights that have been completed. I think this is limited to travel in the past six months though.

With VS the bulk of economy flight qualify for miles, but some of the really cheap fare classes, such as N and X don't.

See here for explanation of fare classes
http://www.v-flyer.com/codes.asp

We are a very helpful lot here, and I think you will find that - if you ask specific questions about things you are not sure of, then you will get a positive response.

Blackpoolowl welcome!

A few extra things to consider..
virgins FF program has a three year activity period so as long as you fly once every three years your points wont expire..
Obviously your not going to earn mega miles for a once a year trip but miles are miles and you can spend VS miles on lots of things other than flying
cheapest stuff is from 10000 for discount airport parking etc

and after a few trips you'll have enough for eurostar maybe
end of the day it doesnt cost you so you might as well claim the points

Hi,

Sorry to be pedantic again... but you know me! :)

Nick - X class fares do earn miles and Tier Points on all routes. N Class fares earn on some routes - Tokyo, Delhi, Lagos, Port Harcourt, J'Berg and Cape Town

Jonathan - Nice summary, but don't forget the reward of using 2000 miles for an economy milesplusmoney (MpM) fare - these 2000 miles can easily save you £100+ off a VS fare.

Blackpoolowl - to find out the current MpM fares - you can view them here on the online flying club newsletter thing - http://www.iflyvirginatlantic.com/main333.htm

Thanks,
Richard
