Hello All

:DJust had a look at the website Virgin have put the prices on

Price for
7th Dec - Jan 21st £782

I am so excited!!!:D

Who's coming then?

I'll bring the bucket and spade

just phoned up Virgin still do not know the full mileage yet. I have just reserved 2 tickets!!!

However you cannot stop off at Hong Kong for a couple of days- you have to go all the way - as such (although the plane stops for refuel) pitty that.[:(]

I asked about how many miles you would earn (Im at the earning Stage again!!) for the journey

although it will be 11,940 UK - Hong Kong they are not sure about the Hong Kong - Sydney bit yet!

Still a bit miffed about not being able to see Hong Kong! If you see someone running accross the landing away from a Virgin Plane with a suitcase on my head.. it could be me...

So not entirley sure now if we will go Virgin (hint hint to Virgin sort it out)

Great news for everyone!

If it helps, Expedia lists the mileage for Qantas HKG-SYD as 4585 miles, making 9170 miles return and 21110 for the whole LHR-SYD trip-roughly.

Have to agree there - maybe there will be this option on the more expensive classes of fare[?]

Does anyone know if this rule for Oz flights is unique to VS?

I'm excited about the Sydney route, but disappointed that they appear not to be allowing a stopover in HKG, that makes for a long time to be travelling in anything other than UC!!! I am hoping to take a trip over to NZ just after Xmas and was looking at using some of my miles with VS, but for 2.5k I can get a return business class fare with Emirates, from Man (which suits much better) and have a choice of stopovers in Dubai, Singapore and Melbourne..... They have a lovely new fleet of 340-500's and the business class looks stunning, with an IFE that makes V-Port look like a Fisher Price TV!!

I know what I will be choosing.

I was in Dubai in early June when Emirates launched their DXB to JFK service. Buzz Aldrin was on the inaugeral flight - the message was we can't take you to the moon but we can fly you to all continents non stop from DXB. There were many pictures in the local papers including a FA showing Mr Adrin how to use the IFE and my first thought was "Well actually you do need to be a rocket scientist to use our IFE"

The first class suites in the EK 345s set new standards for this class.

Well VS must be the only airline that disallows stop offs. That won't last for long. TG, SQ, BA, QF, EK, etc, etc, all offer stopovers.

I got all excited about this announcement but then I remembered, when I pay for the ticket I fly cattle class. And lets fact it, VS cattle class to Aust, I really don't think so. 31" vs 34" on Malaysian, no competition there.

Looked at emirates a340-500 first looks top notch!! real true cabin with doors and your own bar!!

Also malaysia airlines has offer for £2200 to austarli next year in first class well cheap, i think Virgin will be alot more in upper?[8D]

Speculating again - I would think VS will set their fares in accordance with the competition on the routes.

They must realise that they have to win pax from other airlines to make the routes viable. They are not going to this if they are offering an inferior service at an inflated price.

Brand loyalty is powerful - but not blind;)

I love the fact that VS are heading down under, however I'm sceptical about whether it will provide any *real* competition on the route. Look at the LON-NYC route. There are more aircraft, carriers and seats on this route than any other. However if you look at the prices at any point in the year (particularly during the summer) there is really very little difference in price.

Now I know if you look into it a little further, VS provide IFE, 100% miles and alcohol on board, which the other carriers don't... however its my opinion that there is little competition on the route. I've crossed the pond nearly 20 times in the past couple of years and everytime I go to book a ticket there is usually only a few £ in difference between the majors.

As one born and raised in Hong Kong, I was wondering if this new LHR-SYD route will allow someone to just purchase a HKG-SYD ticket...

priced up economy in jan time

£1000+

Trailfinders have malaysian business for £1699 or £2200 first, it seem well expensive for a small economy seat strange not like virgin??

Prices

Does anyone know if there will be any promotional fares coming up in time for christmas from virgin for there new route....

Dates going Decemeber coming back January (same dates used) for cattle class. including passenger taxes.

Virgin £847.00
BA £1200.80 (although leave on xmas day 853.00)
Emerates £1000.00
Qutas £832.00
Singapore could not get a price

Just to clarify, the IATA cartel sets the base fares, not the airline. That's why most fares are within a few quid of each other -- it's usually the availability that matters. And of course, that's why the airlines try so hard to differentiate on service.

There is some flex to the IATA rules for promotional activity, and of course there are loopholes that allow consolidators to exploit unsold inventory, but usually there are plenty of restrictions.

So, expect to see most VS prices for LHR-SYD just the same as every other airline.
