First off, as a long time VS fan and lurker on this board, thanks to everyone for all the useful information I have learned here.

I am booked on the VS24 next week and have noticed for the last week or so the VS23 has been consistently 2 - 4 hours late leaving LHR and arriving at LAX. Consequently, the VS24 has been departing from LAX at gone midnight instead of 9 p.m. Anyone know what is going on?

Hi kmatthews and welcome aboard.

Glad you have enjoyed the site and found the forum useful.

I can't answer your question but I'm sure someone out there will have the answer.

VS24 arriving on Wednesday was delayed due to late departure on Tues from LHR due to thunderstorms. Not sure about the other days but do know that we did have one aircraft out of action owing to the tail strike and I guess another one out of action being fitted with the UCS. Tail strike aircraft is now back so hopefully that will resolve things.

Thanks for the welcome, and information. I had wondered if the tail-strike incident had created a knock-on effect. Today's VS23 is on time so maybe the return of Cover Girl has cured the problem.

Are there any additional security measures in place at LHR at the moment that could be causing additional delays?

Thanks

Kevin

According to Business Traveller apparently not.

Just got back home, after todays VS 24 flight. We were not delayed and landed on time. Great flight, and excellent service in Upper Class.

Flew on Dragon Lady, same as outbound flight, in Upper Class, had a good sleep and now feel fine and wide awake! Considering I came from Hawaii - 11 hours time difference, so far so good! lol!

First post here, been watching the boards for a while before i went away, hoping that my flight would have a better chance of suites on board! Never mind, next time eh!

The VS23/24 was delayed due to the A346 out of service for a while also one 744 is having suites so VS were two aircraft short.

The same aircraft was doing the VS23/24 for a while, but things are back to normal now!

Hi tdaulerio and welcome aboard,

Hope you can post a trip report, many of us, myself included, try to avoid the A340 esp on long haul such as LAX-LHR. As you obviously enjoyed your experience it would be interesting to hear your perspective, always good to try to get a balanced viewpoint. ;)

Welcome tdaulerio. Glad you enjoyed your flight.

I have flown LAX/LHR UC on both the 747 (always non-suite) and A340 and aside from not having V-Port on the Airbus I have found the experience to be close to identical.

I agree with others here that PE on the A340 makes you feel like you have been a little ripped off. However, as a solo passenger I prefer Economy on the Airbus to the 747 because I can get a window seat without being blocked in by 2 other passengers. With the exception of the back 3 rows of the 747, I feel claustrophobic when occupying a window seat. Just my 2 cents worth :-)

I agree with you 100% Kevin.

When travelling alone in Y on a 744 I'll always go for an aisle seat, but am happy to have the window seat on the A340.

I'm glad VS have opted for the A346 over the 777 for this fact alone!
