Spoke to VAA today to pre order seat on VS033. One 744 has been refitted out of LGW. They did not say which one. Thanks BC for seat recommendation. Now reserved both ways.

none of the LGW planes have been refitted yet. the first one to be done is G-VROS which I believe is due to go in about september time (could be wrong) followed by G-VGAL, G-VLIP, G-VROM and finally G-VROY (in order of age).

Could this plane be a LHR Suite 744 that will be at LGW?

I agree that this must be the answer. As an aircraft is away having suites fitted it makes sense that one would be moved from LHR to take its place.

Hope so, but chances of getting lucky to fly on it are probably slim, but it would be a nice way to travel. Only going on what the chappie said. I presume non suite UC is still worth it though? Any insights in this would be welcome as this is my first UC trip.

Virgin have five planes that were leased from Airitalia
These Planes are usually refered to as 744 LGW (the 744 being 747-400) the latter should be obvious

These are new planes but because of the stage of build when VS got them they differ significantly from the LHR 744's

LGW LHR (suites)
IFE Nova V:Port, Odyssey
Seating no:
J/W/Y 16/50(12UC)/373 44/32/306
Seat Recardo UCS
Bar No Yes
IFB No Yes

So LHR 744's are better as you get the bar and IFB
however when the LGW fleet are refitted these differences will vanish.

Service on the LGW 744's is very good in UC ( there are far less UC seats than on a LHR 744

Not quite right. The 5 LGW aircraft were ordered by Alitalia, but they switched their order to 777s, and Virgin took the planes. They were never owned by Alitalia, but they have an interior specified by them, hence the Recaro seats and Nova entertainment.

The service, as Jonathan says, is excellent in UC and the seats are very comfortable for sitting and sleeping. They'll do for now until UCS is installed!:D

Noooooooooooo, The LGW 400 are not leased from Alitalia at all!!!!

Alitalia order the 5 744 from Boeing then changed the order to B777 so VS jumped at the chance and got the 5 aircraft for a very good price.

Due to the timing of the order the aircraft had to come fitted out in Alitalia config and specs.

Alitalia have nothing to do with them!!!!!

They are still nice planes regardless
I suppose x Alitalia order 744's is more accurate
