Its more to do with the actual letter class, so J or D for UC, W or S for PE and Y for EC (someone correct me if im wrong)

If you want to book a companion flight, call the flying club and tell them where and when you want to go. They will help you find the cheapest travel dates (if flexible) and advise you how much your tickets will cost. Dont forget to factor in the taxes for the companion ticket (often between £60-£80)

I recently booked a companion reward to LAS. I wont get and TPS or miles as my partner is having the full fare ticket, but its a great way to use a few miles.

Highflyer, forgive me for asking but why don't you take the paid for ticket and get your partner to have the companion ticket, or is your partner a FC member too?

Hi

Highly unlikely to be lowest as companion fares only available with full fare tickets (but see one exception below).

The full fare classes are Y for economy, W for Premium Economy and J for Upper Class.

Lowest price tickets usually carry restictions for travel, are sold at a discount and therefore aren't eligible.

Finding Y, W and J fares is usually OK on the website by choosing flexible. However, there is a hybrid PE S fare that qualifies for companion ticket travel and is cheaper than the W fare. It does have some (limited) flexibility. The only way to make sure this is what you're buying is to do it over the phone rather than on the website.

I'd be tempted to do it over the phone anyway just to check there is availability for the companion reward seat.

Sorry Bazz, he's a FC member too [:(] so we are going to take turns with the companion tickets. I did try persuading him that i really needed the miles and TPS, but alas :(

As a side note, i booked some flights in PE Lowest (i think it was to MCO) and they came out as W and S, so they would have counted. MCO can be a busy route so guess that could be why, although my PE MIA flights with V Hols were W too. So 'lowest' fares 'can' count, but id always call FC anyway, at least you can double check everything with them, plus you can get them to do all the typing! LOL

Tell him its better that one of you reaches AU first then you both get the advantages as you can sign in a guest at any clubhouse;)

I think this typifies why it's best to phone FC when it's important to know exactly what fare you're buying. At some point, even J fares will come up as the lowest option on the website when all the Z and D fares have gone
