Potential solution to Economy legroom?

As much as I dislike Skytrax, found this quite interesting.

Thompson claim that they can improve space (and legroom by upto 3")and keep capacity the same by staggering the seats. Also calim you could increase capacity if so desired.

Not sure how easy it would be to get in and out, and I know VS are spending £squillions on the refit and V:Port, but could be one to keep an eye on.

Interesting concept Alex. I would be concerned about evacuation time (all pax deplaned in one minute) with this config. Still it is early days. Noticed a discrepancy in the "views" views 1 & 2 show a rigid screen between seats but view 3 shows the guy in the centre seat with his elbow where the screen would be - bit of a lack of continuity methinks?

It would ceratinly improve the Y cabin purely because it seems like you are not confronted with rows and of seats. I hate that clausterphobic (sp) feeling of the 3-4-3 configurement so im sure that this could help.

Share other's sceptical feelings about evac time, also being able to get in and out of a window/middle seat with the seats in front reclined.

Could improve feeling of privacy to the lone Economy traveller.

Completely buggers up the option of stretching out across a row of seats when the aircraft is not heavily loaded.

maybe if the cinema style seats that are being developed by airbus are put into use it would help.

as for virgin, they need an extra 2-3" of legroom in economy, it's like a sardine can at the moment, and it's putting people off.

Well your last post was a lot of help Declan when will you be able to tell us something a little more concrete?

Surely VS can't be about to change Y to include extra legroom?? After going through the whole re-fit rigmarole with the suites and V:Port, do they really want to go through it all over again so soon to update the Y cabin?

Unless they're just going to remove rows of seats or something a-la American Airlines?

I hope they announce something soon if they are going to do anything. My new employer won't pay for PE and I will move to another airline with better econ seats. And once I start earning points on another programme, I won't be changing back. So the quicker the better:)

When my little one is older, and if we are the position that we have to fly economy, I would not fly VS just for the FF miles and TP's I would jump to use an airline such as American with their greater leg room.
However, It is sad to say that also if VS continue to go down the route that the B & S flights are treated as second class in terms of seating and IFS they will start to lose their loyal regulars.
