The SYD-LON beer record is still held by David Boone, I believe. You mission, should you wish to accept it, is to drink more than 52 tinnies between Sydney and London. Not sure what the return record is.
I read an interview with "Freddie" Flintoff last week...he seemed to think it was doable.

I never seem to receiver any complaints about the wine in J
I would definitely prefer both better quality and better selection on the wines in UC, but then I am a bit of a self confessed wine snob. In general, the average off-licence cost of the same bottle in UC on the ground seems to be about the £10 to £12 mark, with the Champagne being about £20. That's on a par with most BC products. £10 is about the very minimum I end up paying for a bottle on the ground at an offy - under that and I'll have a beer, thank you very much.
What's really lacking in UC is the selection. There's no desert wine for example. I mentioned this last time I was aboard and was told that pax didn't go for it. Sacrilege!
When flying AA in FC I have ended up bringing on my own wine, and I ask the FA's to serve it (so far they have never had a problem, but I always ask - I believe it's normally contrary to airline regs to serve yourself booze). I'm considering doing the same on VS, although I don't know what the response would be on VS.
On a related question, what happens to the opened half empty bottles? On the record and off the record? Perhaps that's answered my question - too much selection = too much wastage.
On the ground, VS is the only airline I've travelled that serves Champagne with their BC product. In my experience, BA only has Champagne on the ground in the First and Concorde lounges (but it is premium £50+ per bottle stuff).

At least there has to be one bitter on the menu. We should start a campaign - anyone else in?
Yup, I'm with you on that, although I'm more partial to a (several) vodka & tonics during a flight these days (I think it's because the London Pride went away). Now, we do have to make a specification that the beer should be a Real Ale - something like Old Speckled Hen would do nicely

(BTW, here's a previous discussion on this one

One of the biggest differences I think i've noticed was the sudden dissapearence of the Baileys / Whiskey shot after your meal. But that went a few years back.
Completely forgot to mention this in my recent trip report! In PE, on the LAS-LGW route, up in the bubble, they served baileys or brandy straight after the meal in the glasses they use for wine. First time i have seen this in PE, but it's been 2 years since i was in PE. Nice touch! Asked for a brandy, and it was a very large serving.
Onionz,
I think you had a very dedicated crew member looking after you upstairs. To my knowledge this is not written into the service flow for Premium, however a lot of crew did feel that the Baileys and Brandy was a nice touch also so if they have some spare they will do a quick whizz round with it in premium.
I wish they would at least bring Baileys and Brandy back for Premium at least! Still it is always available on request in all classes throughout the flight

FWIW, they had Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque 1996 in the LGW FC Lounge last week, the LHR T4 FC Lounge two weeks ago and last time I was in the LHR T1 FC lounge back in July it was Belle Epoque too. I also noticed one of the Heidsieck NVs in the LGW FC Lounge as well as the Belle Epoque. I'd put a 96 BE at about £65 retail.
The Champagne glasses in the BA FC lounges are gorgeously huge, allowing for a good half pint at least.
BA FC lounges abroad seem to have the non-premium stuff.
Haven't been in the LHR Concorde lounge for a few months - they used to do some awesome stuff in there, eg Pommery Louise 1988 and Taittinger Comtes de Champagne blanc de blancs 1988, but I've had Dom 95 in there fairly recently too.
On board BA was serving Krug NV in FC last few times I've been.

That's what the GF says. I'm banned from taking snaps on the plane when she's there. Probably for the best.

They are some large drinks!!
Not a big wine drinker myself so i'm fairly happy with whatever they give me. I do avoid the likes of Blue Nun, Black Tower and La Piat D'or though ... i'm not that white trash.
As for sparkly stuff more then happy with a cheap bottle of Freixenet Cordon Negro Brut.
Can anyone remind me what the standard Gin they use now? Personally I'd love to see them use Blackwood's, but failing that Tanqueray would do nicely. I suspect Tanqueray Ten would be out the budget.

I will second that they are damaging to one's ability to walk.[xx(]

Both concorde room and in first they are now serving the 1996 Belle Epoque must have changed the champers in the other london BA first lounges to this recently, but in June downstairs it was Mumm.Majestic wine had a promo about 8 months ago on Belle Epoque not sure of the vintage but £80 for 2.Speaking to the crew they said the Krug went just before last Xmas, then Pommery Louise for 2 months then the BE.
Flew Cathay Business last october and they gave champagne out when they showed you to your seat. They also gave out a drinks/cocktail list which the fa served before take-off; as well as taking an order for when the plane had taken off. They had a couple of signature cocktails with fresh fruit which would have graced any bar. I am flying UC next month for the first so i am hoping for something similar. Sorry for rambling there.
My point is - am i the only person who takes their own nibbles on the plane. I know this is frowned upon but If I spend a few thousand pounds on a couple of tickets who is going to say anything. The envy on pax faces when they see my walkers sensations, rich tea, and twix biscuits....

Anyone who has ever been stuck on a plane on tarmac for hours takes both their own nibbles and their own soft drinks
I do now have a habit of when using a Priority Pass lounge taking a few cans and packets of munchies with me on the plane.

It sure puts the premium into Premium Economy! I'll be sure to have the baileys next time, and who knows, maybe i'll start my own baileys photo library...

What's even more amazing is that someone in my office has just sent me a link to another website on which our 'obsessee' is even more involved.
Check out the BA section of http://www.airlinemeals.net/indexMeals.html
This is generally a wierd site.

I've come across that site before (but couldn't remember its name or address). I seem to remember a memo on there from one of th m ajor US airlines to its staff, pointing out that the photos on the site showed meals laid out in an un-regulation way, and reminding them of the need to do things properly!

Some of the pictures make you realise how much worse food can be.
Check out Air Kazachstan or (the appropriatly named) Kras Air
Just remember these next time you sit down to an UC meal on VS.

Howard - How did you get involved in the airline dinner photography arena? - just curious [:o)]
