So I'm still waiting to write my TR's because I'm still waiting for my bag from my SFO to LHR flight yesterday. At first I was told it was in San Fran still, now I'm told it's not been located. Oh joy! Anyone else had this experience and able to offer me some good news about their lost bags?!

I can offer you two bits of advice that maybe helpful for you.

1. I had this over the summer (not with VS) but my bag- which was not tagged (due to the worlds worst check in agent) but sent down the belt- was found 48hours later. So goes to show that even without a tag and no label saying who it belonged to (silly I know)- they still can be found.

2. A very good friend of mine works on the lost baggage desk at LHR T4 for BA (poor soul) and she has informed me that a bag will on average take no longer than 2-3days to be reunited with the owner. She said when its classed as 'lost' it will be one of two places, either sat beside the bins at the departing airport or by the belt at the arriving airport. It wont be sat by an empty airplane stand as someone would have noticed and put it on the flight and people dont run off with bags and hide them once they are airside. Thus its easy to locate.

So hopefully- courier company willing- your bag will be with you very shortly. I would imagine its currently waiting to go on tonights LHR flight from SFO or sat in a couriers van.

*still* not located? [n]

When I heard your name called out at the baggage carousel, I knew it wasn't because you'd won a pony - but jeeze.... Was it US Airways not passing the bag to Virgin, or is this Virgin's screw up?

I will add to the optimistic view.

Sleazyjet lost my bag in the summer. We went to Rome, but my bag went to Alicante. [n] We were eventually reunited a week or so after we got back.

One bit of advice I would give is to keep on badgering. I have no idea if it applies to VS but I found that Sleazyjet pushed all of the blame and responsibility onto the handling agents, and then vice versa.

If you bag has your name and address inside, or if the outside tracking labels are still attached, then I would be fairly confident about getting it back. When it is traced, it should be couriered to your home.

two pages Pete neither of which we're good.. the first page was at SFO where I was asked for my baggage receipt so the could check it, then again at LHR to be told it's not there.

The latest update is that Virgin still don't have the bag, thus meaning US air have somehow misplaced it between LAS and SFO... joy of joys! I'm just happy it's when I've got home... not when I was out there. My name and address are on the outside, and my silver card!

Another optimistic view. They usually turn up! I've had three experiences of lost bags (BA, BMI and Ryanair). BA were fab -got the item to me on the next flight (same day) courier delivery, BMI next flight,(next day)courier delivery. Ryanair- awful.Didn't offload the item and sent if off again to various domains of the EU.Item arrived the day before flight home (6 days later). No apology or compensation. US Airways managed to get our bags from LAS via SFO to LHR (via VS) with no problems last year so I'm sure as Nick has said it'll turn up soon. It's a pain I know, but at least it's the inbound leg.

I have had US lose a couple of my bags, both times it has taken them about a day to find it and get it to me, however with you being in the UK it may take a little longer, just pray it didn't go to Philly, other than that you should be ok

Yes, I certainly hope the eventual recipient of my bag (tagged with two airline FF membership tags with numbers, two personal ids and an interior itinerary and phone numbers) EZ Jet lost four years ago in a short hop from AMS to LON has enjoyed that lovely leather jacket, the three files of work papers, and the rest of my gear. Gone, gone, gone.

USAir have a very quick post- Philadelphia policy--they automatically offer you a 'replacement'bag as an immediate solace (although it is empty) and kindly tell you to go ahead and purchase some new toothpaste and keep the receipts....last you hear from them.

new update... had a call from them, saying they've spoken to Los Angeles to find out where my bag is.. because of course they've not noticed that LAS is las vegas and not LAX.... often outsourcing can cause problems!

Great news.

I did have a discussion with the VA checkin agent this morning, when he weighed my Carry On at 14Kgs, I explained that due to United's unique way of handling my bags, I needed the extra stuff as there is no guarantee that my bag will arrive in Denver when I do. Currently I am achieving a 40% success rate of getting to my destination with my bags via United.

oh I forgot to mention this gem... whilst waiting on hold for the lost baggage people guess what song they were playing.

The Jackson 5 - I Want You Back.

Hey, I'm from philly, it's a great airport, if you can see it through the smog [}:)] Oh, and the Walt Whitman bridgeconfused about into the haven of Jersey is only 5 minutes away, as long as you close your eyes going through Glouster City [y]

Ermmm can you edit this again so it makes sense please? And why do you drive to Jersey via Ohio of all places? Seems like quite a pointless detour?
