Hey everyone,

After a while lurking on here - thought I'd show myself. Have really enjoyed reading the TRs and other discussions, plane configs etc. (Still absolutely gutted that I'll never be able to follow my dream of becoming a commercial pilot (age & poverty!)

Anyway, have recently got married and this Sunday (2nd Dec) the wife & me are off to Cuba for a week. We've been saving up for this honeymoon for over a year (only booked a few weeks ago though). Although we're going economy I want to try and make this week as special as possible for my woman. She's a bit of a nervous flyer even on short haul flights & I know she's going to be feeling really rubbish at the fact we're leaving our 8 year old boy with his Gran for the week.

Has anyone got any advice on what I can do to make it that bit extra special for her? Should I mention this when checking in to see if she could get a glass of champagne or something when we're on board?

What nice things do you or 'can' you get in economy if you know to ask for them?

Thanks in advance (will post a TR when back in the office on 11th Dec or so...)

Hi Rider,

Congratulations! But if you want a treat onboard, you'd better be quick and visit here.

You need to order quick as they normally require 7 days notice, so hurry!

Take a look at the list and then phone to order it.

Regards,

David.

Fantastic!

Am going to call them straightaway. Looked on the site and saw it, wasn't too sure if you could buy it to take away with you or if it was to drink on board. What the hey - will do it anyway!

Thanks
Rider

Have actually just gone & ordered a bottle of champey for the Mrs now. Hope she gives me some too![:)]

Did you book your flights / holiday through Virgin Holidays? You could then buy entry to the Clubhouse or V Room at Gatwick beforehand.

Alas no - another travel agent - but is it possible to still buy entry to this?

Welcome to V-Flyer [:)]

You wont be able to book a visit to the Virgin Clubhouse or the V Room (which isn't open yet anyway) but you can book a visit to the Servisair Lounge in the South terminal at LGW using the BAA Web site (Click the booking now link on that page)

It not a Virgin Clubhouse but at least it gets you away from the busy departure lounge for a couple of hours, plus it would earn you a few more Brownie points too[8D]. It's about £18 each.

Congratulations BTW [:D]

congratulations
there's loads you can get if you tell people its your honeymoon i have on occation seen people upgraded, by check in. the crew cant upgrade you but if you've ordered the champagne it will be delivered to your seat in an ice bucket with glasses and some chocolates, and you will be asked if you want to drink it on board.

Cuba is a fantastic place if you have never been a must is to go to havana and either do the horse and buggie tour or better still get a convertable 1950's car to drive you around in for the afternoon should cost you 30 pesos. be carefull of the food and dont expect great restaurants, the prettiest ones aren't always the best. the beaches are amazing, and so are the people and buildings. you will get locals befriending you and asking you to give them money for baby milk this is a con, the goverment gives them ample rations for baby milk and most of the time there is no baby they just keep a picture. that aside its an experience, and a lovely island.

First off - thanks for all the advice/tips. All seriously appreciated.

I checked out the servisair lounge - after having a look at the clubhouse - this seems a poor man's version (well I guess I am poor!) but not convinced by it. Yet...

As for Havana - went there a few years ago with some mates for 2 weeks (with Cubana and the flight was very enjoyable). We're only there for a few days and off to an all inclusive resort (my sister upgraded us to a bungalow on stilts in a lagoon which we're really excited about).

I did come across a couple of scams, but we came out of them alive, if a few dollars poorer. I think I'm a bit wiser now so should be able to spot/avoid them. In saying that, we do know what to expect, but it's more for the experience of Cuba before Castro goes. And we've also loaded up on gifts to take for the locals (toothbrushes, soap etc.) Just hope they don't get too offended by it.

Just need to find my passport now...[:?]
