Planning to go to LAS and MCO for our honeymoon next Aug and I have enough miles to get discounted tickets and was wondering if it was worth paying the extra money to go PE?

Any opinions greatly appreciated

Hi gueastlist_girl, and welcome [y]

Personally, the word 'honeymoon' = 'yes'... [;)][y]

Thank you - That was my thought but keep reading not so good stuff about PE from LGW and so am a little worried!

PE from Gatwick is actually now the only way you can travel on the 'Upper Deck' of a 747 with Virgin without flying Upper Class. The other planes have been reconfigured to push all of the PE seating downstairs.

Based on that, I'd say the 'upstairs-ness' of it all makes the whole experience a little more 'refined'. Not to mention, priority boarding, first on/off the plane (ish) as well as a few other extra bits. [;)]

Welcome to the site guestlist_girl, I echo what preiffer has said.

This is one of our more popular debates, I am sure others will add their thoughts. If you want other opinions, have a look at this recent thread, which includes links to past discussions.

Best of luck with your wedding and honeymoon, and don't forget to post a trip report when you get back. [;)]

If you don't treat yourself to PE for your honeymoon, when exactly will you? A honeymoon deserves those little touches that make it special and memorable. It will be, you hope, a once in a lifetime experience. PE will definitely help you to make it so!

I've flown Economy on the LGW 744 fleet and if you're on a full flight, it's not always a great deal of fun down the back. If you are going to fly in Economy, then try and bag seats in the Economy 'mini-cabin' at the front in rows 21, 22 and 23. This is easier said than done, as I believe it has often been mentioned on here that these rows generally only get released 24 hours before departure when Online check-in opens.

As you are going on honeymoon, if you can do PE, then do it - especially if you can get seats on the upper deck of the 744. I've never been up there personally, but many a V-Flyer [& a friend of mine confirms the same] that it's really nice and quiet up there. To quote my friend 'the extra six or seven inches of seat pitch made all the difference'.

Also, if you fly in PE or the Economy 'mini-cabin' you are some of the first people off the plane in the USA so you get a good chance of clearing US immigration quickly too.

Having recently travelled MAN-MCO in PE upstairs, I would say absolutely! worth every penny. Return was PE downstairs which wasn't so good but still just about worth it.

You guys swayed it for me, just booked there and back in PE, I've been allocated seats in row 71, are these ok or should I try for others? All the exit/bulk heads are showing unavailable, would I need to pay extra for these?

There are no charges for Exit row seats in PE. Exit and Bulkhead seats do not become available until the Check In desks open.

Though it has been known for agents to try and charge you for these seats, just ask for a supervisor or tell them you are a friend of LRoM.

Great decision guestlist_girl, it will really make your flight something special rather than just a way to get your final destination. The only downside is once you've flown PE you won't want to go back to Economy again.

Any PE seat upstairs is just great. But IMHO, if you want the best, try for 79 A-C - there is a really useful, dinky little table at the side of the C seat. [:D]

I agree these are the best PE seats on the LGW 747 and we've got them out and back to Jamaica in February.

In answer to the OPs question, PE isn't perfect but it's 10 times better than economy. Pay the extra, you won't regret it.

PE all the way...if you can afford it.

Considering that this is a honeymoon I would've gone the whole hog and booked in UCS, but I suppose if you're flying in any cabin apart from Economy you will enjoy it.
