Hello

Travelling to HK late Oct/early Nov next year with family of 3. Planning to fly PE. Is it best to buy now or wait until later. Will Virgin have a sale soon or are prices likely to be reduced. Don't want to miss getting a PE seat but want to get a decent price too.

Also do the HK flights have the new PE seats?

Any thoughts?

Hi and welcome to V-Flyer.

Yes the HKG flights which are operated by the A346 are fitted with the new PE seats.

As to the other part of your questions, that is something only you can really decide. Fare prices fluctuate all the time and seats are being sold all the time so it is difficult to predict. Personally I would book now if you are comfortable with the price, that way you are certain you are on the flights you want in the cabin you want. HKG is a popular route and the flights are often very full and late Oct/early Nov is a popular time to go as the weather is becoming more bearable for us Westerners. Waiting might (and its a big might) save you a few pounds in a PE sale (although I can't remember HKG being listed on many of the previous sale offers) but you run the risk of not getting on the flight/cabin you want.

As I said right at the start, its a personal choice and all depends if you want a specific flight or a slightly cheaper one.

Another question : Is it best to buy from the airline directly or is it cheaper to buy from a travel agent with a hotel package? Do travel agents get cheaper price?

Also once the price are released on the Virgin website are there likely to remain the same or do they change as the weeks go by? Sorry so new to all this!

If you are just booking a flight then I would suggest you use the airline direct, Virgin have a price promise guarantee so you will always get the cheapest price with them. The prices on the site will vary, only a certain amount of seats are available in each fare code and once they have all gone then obviously its the next level fare code which will more costly. Plus each fare price could vary week to week also. Its a very complicated business and sometimes you will book and the price will go up other times it might go down. You just have to decide when you are happy and go for it.

If you start to include hotels into the equation then it might vary. A company like Virgin Holidays might have some good deals on with hotels and quite often their PE upgrade prices are very reasonable too. Again it comes down to personal preference and research. I spend hours looking at hotels direct, travel agents, booking sites etc and whoever is the cheapest overall usually gets my business (sometimes there are other things to factor like reward programmes/if no deposit is required etc).
