Just thinking, if VS dont call a strike then will the BAA strike effect me since im flying from MAN? Will my flight be effected?

Does anyone have any idea?

I have checked the VS website and the entire flight is fully booked. If that makes a difference?

stu, MAN is not one of the BAA airports so your flight should be OK

Flying out the 1st from man - just the one problem to cope with rather than 2 if we were flying from lgw [:?]

Should know about the cabin crew vote shortly. I think its Thursday.

It says an official announcement is expected tomorrow. As soon as anyone hears anything can you post a link to the announcement here?

Its not going to be a good start to the year for Virgin is it. And this one is much harder for them to plan a contingency for I guess.

Shouldering the BAA strike around the VS strike is going to make for a very interesting time, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Unite have co-ordinated the actions this way.

Is there any prescedent for this with VS where pretty much all of their operations will be shut down? Do they just cancel every flight for the day in question and leave the fleet where it stops so that it all works to timetable the day after the strike?

I wouldn't have thought this possible as not all VS flights are every day, and, aside from purely the scheduling issue I presume they have only certain flight slots on certain days.

Don't forget they still have Manchester. I would expect some cancellations and possibly some moves. Busy time of year coming back to the UK so could upset a lot of people

I disagree.

Flights from Manchester to Orlando are full on loads of days in early Jan, most travelers on the MCO route will be families and i would assume for the sake of PR seeing loads of families stranded to make way for perhaps more profitable business routes would be a no.

Added to that Man is not directly effected by the BAA strikes.

To me it looks that Virgin have chose to effect the flights that are generally business routes and/or routes that would tend to be more used for weekend getaways.
Florida is a Holiday destination as is the Carribean and India, Far East etc. All these flights remain unaffected.

I would say Virgin have made their priorities very clear.

India isn't only holidays- I'm certainly business on 16/01 and a lot of BOM in UC is business. Looks to me like VS have cancelled where they guess there's a good chance of re-booking pax-especailly true of Chicago and Boston and JFK.Not sure about Nairobi.
