So ... surviving two 777-200 flights today [}:)] I am prompted to comment on Emirates style of securing the cabin for take off and landing ... aka none. For example today on EK029 from DXB to LHR in business, the man next to me on take off had his seat back, no seat belt on - other people had bags on the floor, earphones in etc. - similar on landing with the addition that I had a glass and empty can (club soda actually for those who suspect I am a lush!) still on my seat arm, two CC walked past, looked and left then of course on braking after landing said glass shot forward and could have smashed on the wall in front of me, just hit it and ending up on the floor.
Never again, after the BA incident, will I begrudge VS's approach to securing the cabin on take off and landing. It is very thorough and absolutely right. I'll maintain however that on landing in particular VS does it way to early but that's a different point. Oh and I am writing to Emirates - I was shocked, especially as I felt extra sensitised after recent events!

There's a plane at JFK, to fly you back from far away
all those dark and frantic transatlantic miles
