Hi - we're looking to fly into either MIA or MCO with Jnr later this year and I'd appreciate any info or suggestions.

I've flown all x 3 VS classes and from a personal perspective UC is the preferred option (obviously). However the bulkhead seats with skycots in Econ look to offer a practical solution I can't recall seeing in either PE or UC.

As this is new territory for all 3 of us any helpful suggestions welcomed.

cheers

If you're basing your decision on what class to fly purely on what's best for Jnr (rather than cost), then it's a no-brainer - has to be Upper.

Granted, on a 747 there are no bassinet postions in Upper, but do bear in mind you're flying on a rather large bed, and when our dear daughter was a more managable size she and the-now Mrs. mdvipond were very comfortable sharing a suite together. And if you were on the MIA route you might be able to get two centre suites so that all three of you can share! Cosy...

Hi PT

There are SkyCot positions in PE. On the MCO route they would be at the front of the upstairs (I think on both sides but certainly A/C) and also downstairs - again I think both sides but certainly H/K.

The LHR a/c for Miami I think have Skycot positions in the centre of row 32 - anyone confirm?

Best wishes for the imminent arrival.

MIA is nearly always op'ed using an A346 these days.

In the PE cabin on the 346's and the 343's there are Skycot attachments in the twin seats on both sides of the cabin in row 18, but not in the middle section of 3 seats in that same row.

Didn't realise that MIA was an A346 route now - that's even better news if you're looking at going UC, as there's a bassinet position next to 8G.

Are you sure mdvipond? Not when we went last year, just a little extra shelf space.

8G on the 346 is indeed a bassinet position. I've only seen it used once....and the child nearly climbed out, only to be stopped just before falling by an observant crew member!!!

There are some fixing holes on the shelf that the bassinet fits to. It's a funky little thing, done out in purple leather to match the suites.

NS - me thinks the child should have been secured in there a little better. Or heavily drugged. Or both.

If you enjoy being tied down and drugged up I'm sure there are some establishments out there that can cater to your needs...

Guys - thanks so much for your helpful info.

Testament to the UC suite that although I've flown UC a few times ( and been aware of babies on board) I've been blissfully unaware as it were!

by the sound of it the MIA route in 8G sounds the best plan.

I've decided that LHR - MIA is preferable to LGW - MCO (given we're near Reading).

One last question - presumably i need to advise VA on booking - and by the sound of it certain seats in UC are almost in a double format?

any other tips ref prams car seats etc -

cheers

Blissfully unaware. Ah, those were the days. Before long you'll be an expert in prams (unruly hang-gliders), car seats, bassinet postitions on various types of plane and which on-board loos have baby changing facilities.

As James was good enough to point out, MIA is an A346 route now which will give you the option of the bassinet position at 8G. However, you'd have to 'phone VS to try and pre-select this seat, as the website won't let you do it online, what with it being reserved for wee brats and all.

This also means you're out of luck if you fancied turning your suite into a double bed; this would only apply to a LHR 747.

Pram wise, well, you've come to the right man. We've been travelling with mdvipond jr. since she was 3 months old (she's now 2) and the unruly hang-glider has been our constant companion. Feel free to PM me if you want to know the full and awful truth...

Try and request/insist the pram goes on board with you. And ask the FA to take it to the door BEFORE everyone gets up if you want a sharp exit.
