For the last week, whenever I access my reservation and look at 'Where's my seat?' it says that the seatmap for my outward journey is unavailable. (MAN-MCO, VS75, 7 May 08, UC.) I can view the seatmap for my return journey.

Does anyone know why the seatmap would be unavailable for this length of time?

I'm just wondering if I need to be prepared for some change to my arrangements that VS may be cooking up.

Invariably this is when most (all) seats have been allocated as the opportunity for pax to switch is then considerably diminished

As buns said, this is usually caused by the allocation of all unblocked seats. This does not necessarily mean that the flight is oversold, or that you don't have a seat, you just don't have one assigned to you.

All airlines block off a certain percentage of seats, including exit rows until the day of departure. Show up at the airport early and you should still have a few options.

Seatmap on expertflyer is showing W and Y practically empty at the moment, J has 4 seats blocked and one free.

If you have already pre-selected seats then in the Update Booking page if you select your name it will still show your seat reservations.

If you have been able to view your seat map in the past, but you now cant, it could also just be down to a schedule change. If you flight times changes (even by just a few minutes), the VS seat maps disappear. This has always been a glitch with the VS view my booking system.

Give VS a ring to 'refresh' your booking. If it is just a schedule change, you should then be able to view your seat map.

I think VS might have a made a change to the 'manage my booking' section where schedule changes have occurred. I was updating Luke's FC number last night and when I logged in there was a different page stating a schedule change and ticky box asking me to confirm I was aware of the change, I then could proceed to my booking as usual. A good change by VS I think, much better than having to call FC and ask whats happened like before.

Yes I found that too when I went into Manage my Booking a couple of nights ago

I have all these problems. Now the message is

'We have not enough seats to seat all passengers. Seats will be allocated at check in!!!

[:0]

Had just come off the phone to UC reservations to be able to access our VA 'manage your seats' reservations and she said we still had our original seat numbers so who knows? Might be sharing suites.

HL kindly provided me with the same sage advice a few days ago and it worked - THEN. However, having come across this topic I went to check that me and the present Mrs Treelo were still destined to be the lucky occupants of our favourite 747 PE seats (79A-C). I clicked both names in turn and was met with the message 'Not currently chosen' for both seats on both legs [:0] What's going on here [?]

Don't know what's going on but I can click on our names and find that we have in fact been allocated our fave seats (again?) Huzzah [:o)]

It's awful to have to pick one's seat too often. Good show, Treelo!

I have been on a number of flights recently in which UC has been oversold ... I hope that doesn't affect you.

Same problem on a flight to Miami on the 26th in PE. I'm hoping for an upgrade, which has happened in the past when the seat map wasn't available. I guess it's really saying you either can't change your current seat or there has been a change that affects your current seat.

Although our chosen seats are still showing when I click on our names online, I decided to phone VS yesterday and ask why the seatmap is unavailable.

I was told that it was because only the 'sleep zone' seats are available and those cannot be pre-booked.

So, please tell me, what is the Sleep Zone on an LGW/MAN 747 on a daytime flight? [:?]

Uhm, with only 14 seats in the single cabin, as far as i was aware, there is no snooze zone on the LGW 744. [:?]

Might be worth calling back and speaking to somebody different to see if you get the same response. Most likely, all the seats available for pre-allocation have been taken.

Thanks,
Sarah

Wonder if they are referring to the 2 back rows that you can never pre-book and are just calling them the 'sleep zone' in error [?]

You cant pre book the last two rows because of the location to the bar unit they are always allocated last.

When using manage your flight, if you have a seat already preassigned this will show when you click on the arrow. If you want to change it and the seatmap isn't displayed it means there are no seats left to change to so this is why it doesn't display. Like others have said its because not all seats can be pre assigned that this problem occurs. As for the message saying the website has reached the maximum of seats it can check in or something like for online check in, its again due to seats being held back for the airport
